“In our (almost) four year history, we’ve worked with a handful of artists we knew were destined for big things - maybe even before they or anyone else did. And, in most cases, we’d like to think time has proven us right. As we’re halfway towards the label’s first birthday, we figured it’d make sense to celebrate six months of FKOFd, and four years of FKOF, with one of those artists…

“We’ve been working with Holland’s The Illuminated since hearing Scavenger, one of their first productions that caught the attention of Skream and Benga on Radio 1, some two years ago. Dyzz, Rebus and Vence’s music is reminiscent of the early days of dubstep - with inspiration drawn from the same places as the sound’s forefathers. The trio may have only been producing together for a few years, but they’re quick on their way to joining the likes of Noisia, Icicle, Proxima and TMSV as internationally known and respected bass music producers.

“FKOFd006 is another flawless release from The Illuminated; demonstrating their skill across the bass music spectrum. Vintage is a classic production from the trio, opening the EP with an impressive statement of intent. de_dust is a firm favourite amongst some of the scene’s most respected DJs (along with anyone who knows where the name’s from), while Psychonauts ups the scare factor with a nightmare-esque second drop. HMU draws FKOFd006 to a close, a warming lighters-up-eyes-down riddim.”

The FKOF review:
"Konvex opens Carrion with a lone snare, an unsettling sample that floats around in the back of the mix and sparse percussive hits before adding a foreboding vocal to announce the impending drop. Growls of superb quality descend on the listener's ears, alongside a near lethal dose of bassweight - as the producer continues to use his intelligently placed percussive elements. 

"The break fades out, but without a sense of intermission, before the creep factor is turned up to 11 with the returning sample from the intro. The break slowly transforms into the second drop, once again inspiring cold shivers, which rages along with a perfectly placed kick and chest-rattling sub power. Carrion is another example of just how far the young producer has come, this is a creeper that has been built to destroy any dance Konvex style. A worthy way of celebrating FKOF's fourth birthday!"

"For over 10 years SparkUp aka MC Atactic has been a household name in Holland’s hiphop and bass music scene. He started his musical career in Utrecht, The Netherlands and quickly became an essential part of many live bands as a rapper and vocalist. During this time he also became involved with hosting and MCing, successfully using the skills he gained from his live experience. Always being the perfect spokesman for the bands and collectives he featured in, he even hosted his own local radio show in Rotterdam.
 
"With his growing love for music he set his mind to producing his own material and now believes it is the time to let the world hear his creations. Having learned a lot with his time spend in the studio on many projects, his own studio at de Kytopia Complex in Utrecht has quickly become his home away from home. When concocting bass heavy rhythms, most of his work is 140bpm, but he will often surprise you with different tempos in productions and mixes, which comes from his own diverse musical background with styles ranging from hiphop to reggae and now culminating in bass and dubstep.
 
"Most known for being part of Boemklatsch, he is also an accomplished graphic designer, a big fan of tattoo culture and a huge sneaker freak. There is always common ground to be found with this creative centipede."
