Exclusive: Track 1 (MH Edit) [Fauve]

Hong Kong rooted and raised artists and Canto head diggers MH respectively RFX release the first edition of their Canto Club House project, a potpourri of four tracks reworked and reshaped to be played out on the dance floor and around. After a well-received digital release of Extinct Melodies From the Canto Club which gained the support by artists like Ben UFO, Tim Sweeney, Nd_baumecker or the Blessed Madonna, the demand for more Cantonese edits has been there and is  now finally satisfied. Club-friendly and cheesy but never crossing the line of becoming irrelevant is what characterizes this release, which is equally split into two edits from RFX and MH. The latter took on responsibility for the A1 and A2 while, Romain FX sprinkled his magic on the b-side of the vinyl. The A1 or Track 1 (MH Edit) takes one back to the 80s, to a time when clubs like DD's, Canton Disco or Hot Gossip opened their wild playgrounds in the Asian metropolis of Hong Kong as its nightlife revolved around hotels in those times, ringing in a new era of clubbing. MH's approach lets one re-experience this period of Hong Kong night clubbing with a bass line that vaults one right into the beforementioned events and the Disco-esque chords and vocals add the missing pieces for this total Canto-experience and journey through a 'decade that gave birth to big hair, shoulder pads, and great music'.

After 2 years & being played by infamous names such as The Blessed Madonna, Horse Meat Disco, Tim Sweeney, Carista, Peach, Orpheu The Wizard, Ben UFO, Rune Lindbaek, Dicky Trisco, Double Dancer and the list goes on… Canto Club is back!

From party people with shoulder pads, big hair, white Rolls-Royces, panama hats, the Fragrant Harbour that is Hong Kong had a very unique Hotel / Clubbing scene before places like DD’s, Canton Disco and Hot Gossip opened their doors.

These Discotheques were a place of creativity, panache and mischief of the era. They were all destinations of desire.

For this edition, we have a special duo called Running Hot which is making waves on the web for digging obscure gems alongside our head honcho RFX. This compilation of 8 edits from the harbor.
We have lots of glitter in this one and the usual funky percussive grooves very unique to Cantonese music.

There’s a track for everyone in this compilation.

Quartier Groove Records releases its first EP “Ritmo del Barrio” that features two club weapons from the Spanish electronic music vaults of the 90s, TYU’s remix of Bravo & Dj’s 1989 one-hit wonder “Difacil Rap”, and Richard Fribert’s rework of the early electronic rumba track “Sueño Almohade” by Sombra y Luz. Both tracks have been licensed and agreed with the original labels and writers, and will be limited to 300 copies.

On the a-side, an edgy club revision of a 90s hip-house track that was originally written by a group of DJs compelling us to join them for a wild night out. TYU’s remix, that only makes use of the rad rapapella, makes a perfect match to the daring call and takes us to a 90s rave of today in full style, with its bold drums, slappy snares, trancy synths and road-paving bassline.

The flip comes with Richard Fribert’s powerful and fearless hi-NRG rework of the experimental rumba song “Sueño Almohade” by Sombra y Luz, a track that makes a clear flirt with the history of Spain, a country that was once the Muslim ruled area of “Al-Andalus”. Spanish passion meets Arabic mystique in this hard, slamming, acid ride of an update. The result, a DJ weapon to be reckoned with.

The two tracks comes together to form Ritmo del Barrio EP, “Quartier Groove” in Spanish, the project by label heads Richard Fribert & MOQST that was designed to encourage listeners to search for more unknown and forgotten music in the most unexpected of corners of the world.

Ric Piccolo (The man from Pampas)is an Argentine music producer and Dj who explores different genres such as Disco, Wave, House and Rare Grooves with experimental/leftfield concepts.
He is also digger, reworker and remixer of all obscure gems from the Argentine 70’s and 80’s scene with his mix series PampasDiscoShock and his 12” releases series AustralWorks and The Sound Of Pampas.
As a Dj, his style ranges from obscure Disco madness to the most innovative current sounds for the dancefloor. His Freestyle sets are always remembered.

Furor Exótica is an Argentinian Disco/House duo from Buenos Aires, formed in 2013 by the vocalist Viky O. and the producer Ric Piccolo.
Furor Exótica live sets combine jamming vocals with floating rhythms and synthesizers, for a non-stop dancing atmosphere.

Awesome Orientalists From Europa is an edits project dedicated to awesome music and new politics. Inspired by record labels and DJs that specialise in reissuing ‘world’ music, A.O.F.E. turns the tables on the perception of who is exotic by rediscovering obscure and forgotten western dance floor tracks. The music published in the project fantasises about the foreign, tribal and oriental, but was in its whole created in the west, for the west.

All profits from this release are donated to NGOs that fight Islamophobia, antisemitism and racism in Europe.

Dance for Relief is a project that's been on our minds for a while as a way using our music to help raise funds for causes that we are passionate about. With the world currently struggling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic now felt like it would be the right time to get this project started.

The first project under this banner is a compilation of edits, remixes and secret weapons from various friends, with Volume 1 focusing on cosmic, tribal and trancey sounds of the 90s.

All money from this release will go straight to Direct Relief (directrelief.org), a charity who's mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies, and who are doing great work to ensure that protective gear and critical care medications get to as many health workers as possible. We felt they were a particularly both in the midst of current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

Finally, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all the artists involved who have given their skills and time during a difficult period to help make this release happen in support of a worthy cause.
