Sealings are a three-piece based in the dilapidated seaside resort of Brighton. Their debut LP 'I'm a Bastard' follows numerous releases on UK independent lynchpins such as Italian Beach Babes, Tie Dye Tapes and Clan Destine Records. I’m A Bastard marks their first release proper on Brighton-based label Faux Discx, who have once again joined forces with the aforementioned Italian Beach Babes (as they did on Cold Pumas’ much celebrated 2012 release Persistent Malaise) to release the long-player.

Sealings are a band whose live show has been described as both “based more on confrontation than anything else” and “willfully abrasive”. To attempt to capture this mindset of total sonic annihilation Sealings recorded at home and in windowless ex-toilets, before handing over to like-minded peers MJ (Hookworms, Suburban Home Studio) and Mikey Young (Total Control/Eddy Current Suppression Ring) who mixed, and mastered the record respectively to both temper and bolster the group’s caustic tendencies.

'I'm a Bastard' is an LP that showcases the multitude of tricks that Sealings have mastered. Whether careering three-chord punk, industrial instrumental passages or fervent noise-rock, Sealings are beginning to carve their own individual place that owes much to each genre they mine from, whilst never being reductive of them.

The band eagerly anticipate the release of their next album; rightly so - pensive and pounding, ‘Pure Mood’ oozes all things dank, dark and dreamy. The 12 track LP, to be released in November, presents a vivid and searing collection of songs.

The aptly named opening track 'Dream Again' is sung by bassist Alex Gehring, whose delicate voice echoes eerily over the spectral, otherworldly chords that pluck underneath. 'Heavy Metal Suicide' & ‘Stare At The Sun’ contain the same cathartic droning that has been previously celebrated by genre forefathers, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Tracks like 'Never' and 'Boys In Heat' plunge the band and listener alike deep into the uncharted sonic depths of unadulterated, decadent sound. Elliott Frazer's vocals accentuate the eruption of noise behind his anthemic lyrics, dipping in and out of brief moments of clarity before bursting back into the manic grit of songs like 'Big Bopper' and 'Frisbee'. There's a daring clash of fury and fragility throughout 'Pure Mood' that demonstrates Ringo Deathstarr are not just reliving a scene, they're re-inventing it with their shattering use of chaotic guitars and haunting voices.

"Shake The Shackles" is Crystal Stilts' first release since "Love Is A Wave" and is a great snapshot of where the band is now and a taster for their forthcoming second album, due early 2011. Driven by echoed guitar strum and droning keys, it's a dexterous update of 60s garage pop that places it alongside late 80s Paisley Underground heroes like Green On Red and later Dream Syndicate, but the song itself is totally timeless, and impossible to place anywhere but firmly in Crystal Stilts' own unique style.
