Fay Ray (formerly Church Booty) has evolved. With eight moving parts topped by the electric vocals of Mariel Fechik, the Chicago band's funk and jazz influence has grown into a character all its own. Fay Ray's debut EP “No Love,” released Oct 2017, brings the band's chemistry and collaboration into the spotlight, with four diverse tracks that explore the intricacy of romantic relationships. When the band formed in the university town of Champaign-Urbana, IL, they were taking part in an innovative, supportive, and wide-reaching local music scene. Moving to Chicago in 2015, the band began playing around the city and beyond. Their music stems from eclectic mix of genres, taking influence from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Nao, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Becca Stevens, all the while expanding on their equally eclectic tastes. The core band members (Mariel Fechik, Noah Gerhmann, Joe Meland, Rob Osiol, Erik Opland, and Tom Kelly) all share writing responsibilities, making for a uniquely collaborative experience. Keep an eye on Fay Ray as they continue to hone in on their particular brand of spacey, dreamy funk/R&B.
