We have so many conversations about abortion, but most of the time they’re abstract and political, they’re not about the lived experiences and choices of women who’ve terminated a pregnancy. For this show, we wanted to create a space for those conversations, a space for doubt, relief, anger and a bit of humour. A space for women’s stories.

That Girl

Sol Bellear is a long time Redfern All Blacks player. He started with the team 

in 1967 and put on an All Blacks jersey for the first 20 years of the NSW 

Aboriginal Knock Out that began in 1971.

There aren’t many titles that Sol hasn’t held in his history with the Redfern 

All Blacks. He was a front and second rower, coached the team and held the 

position of President of the All Blacks for some 15 years. He no longer kicks 

around on the footy field but counts himself as a strong supporter of the club.

Away from the footy field Sol is the long serving Chairman of the Aboriginal 

Medical Service located in Redfern. He shares with Emma Lancaster how the 

Redfern All Blacks got their name – and it’s not what you think.

Women are already walking in fear – what does it mean when those in authority suggest they shouldn’t be walking at all?

Melbourne artist Stephanie Freda Leigh usually paints women’s figures, on plywood using enamel paint. But last year as part of her masters she used projections of text to bring a message to the street where she lives in Melbourne’s suburbs.

It wasn’t the reactions of women her own age that had her feeling like the piece resonated - she already knew this was a message that struck a chord with friends of hers, other feminists she spoke to. She was surprised by the reactions of her neighbours - women older than her, who felt the same thing.
