R.Talitha Samuel is a cultural producer based in New Delhi. 
Featuring only guest experts from caste-oppressed communities, Clear Blue Skies S1: Experiencing Ambedkar (2021-23) was a radical political theory podcast that Samuel hosted & edited. It built on the final year seminar Samuel developed & led, which was the first university-level course on anti-caste thought across Turtle Island. Currently, the larger project of Clear Bue Skies Productions is expanding into mixed media collaging, experimental research-based narrative soundscapes & sonic ethnography.

The Midday Mix - HALFQUEEN

An unassuming revolutionary in Australian music, there are few local parallels for what moktar is now achieving, having more in common with scenes and artists emanating out of the UK, US or the Middle East instead. He has carved a singular lane for himself, exploring an exuberant and irrepressible combination of Arabic and Middle Eastern instrumentation, rhythms, melodies and tonalities with rattling techno, precise, tightly-wound IDM, fidgety sample work and raucous breakbeats. Expressive, dynamic and textural, his compositions are simultaneous explorations of what it means and sounds like to exist at the interstices of cultures, as well as proud exercises in centring and practising his own rich culture through his music. It also helps that they happen to go unbelievably hard when blaring out of a club stereo system.

The Midday Mix - moktar

Ushering in two far reaching forces in the Australian dance music scene, Kate Miller (@katemiller) and Emelyne (@emelyne-khor), hitting the waves b2b with an improvised and amicable dub bound turned dance battle, ahead of what is sure to be an iconic set at tomorrow’s D-Street Studio Party at the Sydney Opera House as part of VIVID Sydney, along side Mad Miran (NL) and Piezo (IT). 

Both Emelyne and Kate are bold and emphatic selectors, with well earnt badges as ‘music chameleons’, delivering wide-ranging sets which move with fluidity between UK-inspired sounds, bombastic broken beat, forward-thinking rhythmic productions, booming dub, drum and bass, IDM and footwork.

DWAMS (@dwams) is an eclectic electronic music producer, DJ, and digital artist currently based in Eora. Their sound is a unique fusion of underground dance and internet music, infused with a nostalgic bitcrushed aesthetic reminiscent of the early 2000s internet era. Drawing inspiration from online communities and the digital realm, DWAMS crafts sonic landscapes that transport listeners to alternate universes.

In 2024, DWAMS released their EP "and the sky" on the German trance label ONLYTRANCE, showcasing their ability to push boundaries within the genre

Besides music production, DWAMS is also does art direction and branding for local artist and online music collective "under.net".

This week we welcome legendary turntablists DJ D & DJ Robert Smith to the studio.

The two have been spinning wax for over 20 years respectively and have competed on the global stage at the DMC World Championships for countless years.

Dubbed Australia’s premiere female Turntablist, DJ D is known for her achievements in the global scratch battle scene, awarded Oceanias best DJ at the 2023 & 2024 45 Day Awards UK.

Ambassador for Pioneer, she's the first lady to represent Australia at the World DMC All Vinyl Finals, and the first to perform an all 45' vinyl set in the competition's history.

In 2022 D took 5th place in the DMC All Vinyl World Finals, in 2023 she took 8th place.

She also produces two of the nation’s first vinyl-only radio shows on the Community Radio Network.

D has played host to countless artists including Xzibit, Naughty By Nature, Montell Jordan, Blackstreet, Ryan Leslie, Jon B, Horace Brown, Jodeci, Redman, Spice 1, Tha Alkaholiks, Masta Ace, DJ Yella and many more.

Robert has been practicing his skills for 25 years, needless to say, he masters his turntables expertly, using them like an instrument. 

The Berliner is part of the duo, "Smith & Smart", that's been touring all over Europe for 22 years. Scratching his way around Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, England, Australia and the USA, hip hop is the base for Roberts work, with jazz, electro, soul, funk and world music also finding its way onto his turntables. 

He's the 2016 winner of the Shook Ones Scratch Challenge, winner of the 2017 DMC Germany Champions, finalist for the 2017 Kame World Classic Europe and the 2019 winner of the Come Down Skratch Challenge. 

He received the Kontra K Gold Award in 2020 and 2024 and most recently took out the NAMM BattleRoyal Champions California in January 2025.

This week we're joined in the studio by DJ Thaen, Aless Arias, Missy3000 and Mushii, who are all part of local collective Pho The Girls. 

Pho The Girls is an organisation founded by Maggie Tra, built to bring more women, non-binary and trans DJs to the forefront with DJ workshops, a music label and events ran under Pho The Girls. 

As a community PTG has been recognised both locally and internationally, being featured on Resident Advisor, DJ Mag, FBi Radio, Mixcloud and more. 

As a group, they organise they're own events to create opportunities and provide a rising alternative to all too common male heavy line ups. 

They're members have organised and run events with all femme line-up at Sydney Festival, Ace Hotel, Ching-a-lings, Parramatta Lanes, The Lord Gladstone, Club77 and more. The collective is 30+ members strong, with DJ’s from diverse backgrounds playing a range of genres. 

The majority join through Maggie’s DJ workshops, which provide a safe space to learn from a POC, female DJ, or, through our open decks nights which aims to give newer DJs more experience playing out.

This week we're joined by Kiwi UKG DJ and producer EMILIE ahead of her Dayshift debut at the Sydney Portugal Community Club tomorrow.

Ōtautahi DJ/Producer EMILIE is quickly establishing herself as a major force in the UKG scene, both in Aotearoa and beyond. 

As a producer, EMILIE has achieved significant success with her single "Generations," which reached the Top 4 on the NZ Hottest Charts, and her track "Way That I Roll," which has garnered over 200 thousand streams on Spotify. 

Fast forward a year, and EMILIE unveils her highly anticipated EP, Military Minded. This release showcases a dynamic blend of sounds, from high-energy, hard-hitting organ grooves to bass-heavy 2-step anthems, highlighting EMILIE’S versatility and distinct style.

In her short time as an artist she’s already had the opportunity to play multiple key festivals of NZ, including Rhythm & Vines, Hidden Lakes and Baseline alongside support slots for key UKG artists Y U QT, Dr Dubplate, Badger, Effy, Main Phase, and Interplanetary Criminal.

Curator of Sydney’s finest sounds, Wicked Bandit is an artist, DJ, event producer, radio host, and the Artistic Director of Honey Trap Sound System. 

She presents and produces The New Style on 2SER, playing the finest in contemporary underground hip-hop. She also loves DJing dark bass music, playing anything from phonk, to leftfield, deep dubstep to grime, jungle to drum and bass, and so much more. 

Whatever the genre, Wicked Bandit knows how to pull the party onto the dancefloor. 

With strong values and ethos rooted in Sound System Culture and the Free Party movement, Wicked Bandit is passionate about creating dancefloors that are safe, welcoming, and where possible, completely free.

The Midday Mix - Rubio

This week's show is a pre-record from Wollongong based producer and DJ Atilla The Hunni. 

Self-proclaimed “just a girly” and proud Dhurug woman, Atilla the Hunni is making an impact in the Wollongong scene.

By day, she's a lawyer; by night, a house producer.
Atilla made waves with an impressive debut at Yourshot 2023, cementing herself as an icon among the clubs.

With her first single, “She Drink, She Dance,” she established herself in the growing movement of producers, gaining considerable attention and inspiring remixes from other Australian artists.

Utilising her impressive and versatile library of tracks, Attila blends house, psytech, and techno into her performances, drawing inspiration from her idols, Fab Massimo, Lewis and Kyle Watson.

The Midday Mix - Atilla The Hunni

This week we're joined by local emerging jungle/hardcore collective Midnight Spinnaz in the studio.

Midnight Spinnaz is a Eora based underground music collective pushing the sounds of jungle, hardcore and all things breaks and bass.

Operating since 2024, the crew cut their teeth throwing pop up DIY events throughout the city, spinning the timeless sounds of oldschool jungle & breakbeat hardcore, while providing a safe space for their punters.

Consisting of crew members Floga, Jittrippin, Stevo and a slew of resident selectors, Midnight Spinnaz remain committed to keeping the old school sound alive in the Eora music scene.

Recently celebrating their one year anniversary, the crew have been busy curating regular club nights showcasing a range of established and emerging talents.

"We have been throwing events for just over a year now in the underground rave scene and it's been amazing to share our sound with the local community, we can't wait to push it more to keep it raw and take it back to the old school!"
