Fly By Night Invites Porchcrawler - 1020 Radio - 06/04/21

FBN007 sees up and coming artist D-Nite make his mark on the label with ‘True Force’.  The Belgian producer co-runs ‘Les Flaneurs’ collective in his home town Liège, using their radio residencies to showcase his various musical inspirations. D-Nite reflects his range of influences in the four track EP, exploring all corners of leftfield dance music. 

The leading track ‘Substantial’ immediately puts the EP’s title into play with heavy, electro chords accompanied by breakbeat percussives in the centre of the track. On the follow up, ‘Dive’ flips the switch whilst maintaining the momentum with a garage-infused number that oscillates between wobbly bass and trance influenced synths. The title track ‘True Force’ maximises the intensity with a drum and bass tempo that builds on the previous trancey undertones to create an impactful cadence of euphoria. To round off the EP, Melbourne based producer Hedchef revisits ‘Substantial’, providing a remix that morphs the track into raw electro weaponry.

FBN008 strikes with a storm of thunderous electro, techno and breakbeat grooves, as Hedchef searches for ‘A Disappeared Regime Of Materiality’.

Opener ‘Immersion (Requires A Certain Stillness)’ is a true statement of intent, as unsettling, half-heard whispers and layers of low-frequency power contort over a no-nonsense electro framework. Continuing the theme, ‘Guillotine Clause’ brings razor-sharp synths to cut through a tense atmosphere, before flipping the script for a techno-charged second half to throw the dancefloor off-balance.

Changing the tone for the third cut, Hedchef implores you to ‘Dissolve Yourself’ in 2-step swing and high-tech mechanical textures, before ‘Intersequence’ closes off the proceedings with relentless four-to-the-floor thump and stop-start interplay between euphoric stabs and resonant electro squelch.

For the remixes, we first welcome top-tier rave revivalists Denham Audio to the label. Their breakbeat twist on ‘Immersion…’ shows off their unmatchable, frenetic UK hardcore stylings with a kick drum to knock the wind out of your chest. To wrap things up, frighteningly talented low-end scientist Tom Place makes a return to FBN with his reimagining of ‘Guillotine Clause’. Injected with gaunt atmospheres and a moody bass rumble, the track finds itself in dark, paranoid territory.

Fly By Night welcomes INGI to the label for FBN009 with a combination of breaks, bass, techno and jungle. INGI reflects his diverse music taste in his debut release, exploring all corners of leftfield dance music. 

FBN009 kicks off with the bass-driven lead track ‘Neita’, setting the tone with thumping kicks and a thunderous low-end creating a tense and frenetic atmosphere. Neita is followed by the title track ‘Wrestle’, introducing more melodic elements from INGI’s repertoire, floating chopped up vocals interplaying with precisely programmed drums. INGI proceeds to speed things up for a warped, trippy take on jungle with ‘Góða Nótt’. Intensity is raised to the maximum level with echoing vocals, bubbling synths and hard-hitting chopped up breaks. The flip side features a hefty remix from Rhyvahl, who serves up a chugging bass-driven rework of Neita. The Off Beat boss’ reimagination features echoing warping synths and a thumping kick drum, with enough sub-bass to rattle any club’s system.

With heavy bass & break influences she blames on growing up in the North West outside of Manchester, H3L3NA later in life moved to Glasgow which encouraged her to experiment with harder, darker cuts including electro, hardcore and techno. After killing her set for us at the Hare & Hounds in November, we had to get her involved in our Invites series.

Fly By Night Invites Matt Lund (100% Fly By Night) - 1020 Radio - 24/01/2022

Fly By Night kick off 2022’s proceedings with Departure, the second V/A from the label, as FBN010. Departure provides a reflection of the ever-changing UK music spectrum, exploring the depths of leftfield dance music, whilst remaining distinctly club-focussed. 

FBN010 sees the return of some familiar faces to the label, alongside some exciting fresh faces. Broadly spanning system-rattling, breaks-infused, vocal-stuttering tracks, Departure sets the tone for the year ahead.

All profits raised from FBN010 will go towards UK-based charity Sister Supporter. Sister Supporter is a pro-choice, anti-harassment organisation, who are working towards achieving a national solution to allow those who wish to exercise their legal right to healthcare to do so without interference and judgement. For the March edition of our 1020 Residency, we welcomed Not Bad For A Girl's DaiSu, who's track 'Talk To Me' featured on our recent Departure V/A. DaiSu became involved in the Manchester music scene in 2018 after originally moving up from Bristol to study, and has since featured on stations such as Project Radio, Threads*, 1020 Radio and Melodic Distraction, as well as playing on line ups for Keep Hush, Loose Lips and Redbull.

Fly By Night Invites Another Place - 1020 Radio - 25/04/22

Fly By Night welcome the return of Tom Place for his second release on the label with Rogue Nation, this time partnered with a heavy remix from Raider's Souci, releasing on all platforms Friday 20th May.

Club-centric is the theme as Rogue Nation leads with bass in the driving seat alongside a furious chopped break causing havoc; ready-made to cause damage to any club’s sound-system. Tom’s early influences become evident as his recognisable early electro & dubstep influences are felt despite traversing genres into unchartered territory.

On remix duties Souci creeps up the tempo, providing a hypnotic, high-speed 4-to-the-floor flip. Souci maintains the same power felt throughout the original track, providing a devastating secret weapon for any dark & sweaty club.

Death Raw marks the first release of 2020 for Birmingham-based label Fly By Night Recordings, providing a heavy-hitting breaks and electro 4-track EP from French artist A-Sim (@a-sim1988), featuring a collaboration with Evenn (@evennnn) and a remix from UK Bass artist Pluralist (@pluralist). With releases on R&S Records and RAWAX, A-Sim is an emerging artist to watch, heavily influenced by the sound of UK Bass and breakbeat. Death Raw brings a sign of darker things to come from Fly By Night, yet still focusing on the club-based sounds the label revolves around.

A-Sim - Death Raw EP (Previews) [FBN002]

Break Cycle marks Fly By Night’s third release of 2020 with a heavy fusion of breaks & electro from up-and-coming artist Tom Place (@tom-place-music) in a 3-track EP. Following his releases on Bade Records (@bade-records) and Aloka’s Typeless (@typelessrecords), this year has marked an emergence for Tom as he further embellishes his recognisable brand of techno inspired electro. The EPs opener, Eight Five, is a heavy-hitting electro track featuring a rolling drum beat and an instantly recognisable vocal echoing throughout its’ inner realms. Followed up by its’ more spacey counterpart Break Cycle, a track which builds tension perfectly and exactly surmises what makes Tom’s production so exciting to listen out for right now. Featuring heavy UK bass influences, this track really doesn’t belong in a world where vibrating soundsystems can’t pulse out its’ unrelenting bassline. The EP is wrapped up with the genre-defying Transients, a floaty, emotional track, which serves as a reminder to Tom’s dubstep roots, while still remaining indistinctively electro. Break Cycle embodies a perfect summary of the direction Fly By Night are pushing into as a label, at the start of a busy period of more things to come from both the artist and label.

Tom Place - Break Cycle EP (Previews) [FBN004]

Fly By Night are excited to announce our first release of 2021, a 4-track fusion of breaks and techno from Manchester-based Porchcrawler (@porchcrawlerr). Porchcrawler, who's Dad is a member of legendary Manchester group 808 State, has been developing his sound over the last few years, drawing influences from darker electro & breaks alongside relentless warehouse techno. 

The opening track, The Bailiff, starts off the EP as it means to go on with a roaring bass alongside stabby synths featuring heavy influence from the recent releases of Mall Grab. Oxycodone follows this up with a slower building track that culminates in an outrageous finish with a pulsating acid line to compliment the slamming breaks throughout. On the second half of the EP, Pistol Shrimp starts the push towards the warehouse techno influences. Wrapping up the release is the title-track Blunt Trauma, which features pounding kicks and a roaring foghorn bass. This track in particular was pulled together as an attempt to manifest the chaotic experience Harvey experienced in late 2019, where he suffered a major brain injury.

Fly By Night welcome Oldboy (@oldboytrax) to the label with his relentless, bass-driven track Evergreen. Oldboy departs from his usual UKG sound to deliver a track with a roaring bass and pounding kicks that we truly cannot wait to test in a club. With a recent release on @ratface_records and a forthcoming release on newly-founded Manchester label @noire-state, Oldboy is shaping up to have a huge 2021. 

Fly By Night are excited to announce FBN005, an 8-track V/A with all profits going to Centrepoint, a charity which supports over 14,000 homeless young people every year providing housing and mental & physical health support. Locked Up contains 8 exciting producers ranging from breakbeat, electro & bass, all contributing their interpretation of a year being spent locked inside. From artists ranging from Birmingham to Brighton, Angers to Copenhagen, the V/A is yet another strong release from Fly By Night to round off what has been a long 2020 in which the label have been picking up the pace.

Steeped in his trademark choppy breaks and bass-driven sound, Gavnlig has developed a unique sound in recent years from self releasing his tracks and also a recent EP on @Indexlife.

Head of ROM, Billund follows up his release on Birmingham label @erbium-records with choppy rolling drums and a catchy vocal in his contribution to FBN005. MTGTC belongs firmly in a club-based environment - and no doubt will be belted out in clubs given the opportunity!
