'Running Out of Steam return with their eighth release this time from London born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Amy Dabbs. The daughter of an original Northern Soul DJ, Amy started her musical journey through a vast collection of Motown records - lending itself to further exploration and inspiring her unique take on electronic music today.

Since her widely acclaimed debut EP on Distant Horizons, Amy has released music on Slothboogie and Lobster Theremin’s White label - infusing a classic style at various speeds; from house, jungle and drum & bass. Now, across four tracks, walking basslines and warm sound-design incite feelings of nostalgia, hope and good old-fashioned fun - so let's dance.

‘Places’ starts things off with it’s cascading hi-hats and foot-stomping kick drums; collectively combining classic stabs with feel-good energy in the form of steamy vocal snippets. ‘Flexin’ follows through with more hugs on the dance-floor, a track that almost feels like a final ode to summer and embraces you like the friends we waited so long to see.

‘Be Yourself’ embodies the mantra of doing what you love, a view held deeply by Amy and can be heard running through all of her productions. The melodic elements blossom over beats in an equal exchange of energy, giving birth to a track that makes you feel as if you’re exactly where you need to be. ‘Rise’ then switches from the 4/4 template in favour of slickly programmed breakbeats - while maintaining the essence of classic house, with Amy’s own and ever embracing take.

Peter Kremeier, AKA Losoul, has always been an artist we’ve greatly admired here at Hypercolour, so it’s a real thrill to have him on the label at long last.  A huge catalogue of eclectic, distinctive and funky music for labels like Playhouse, Moodmusic and Freak ‘n’ Chic, Losoul turns in two exceptional tracks on the ‘Slowly Turning’ release here.

‘Daddy, What’s A Rise?’ is classic Losoul; a heavy low slung groove never lets up, with micro disco stabs and distant vocal snippets, looping round and round for over 10 minutes, but without ever standing still, the filtering and deft touches keep things moving at just the right funky pace.

B side cut ‘Time & Space’ is a glitchy and dubbed out affair, a solid 4/4 beat underpins a myriad of delayed percussion and panning synths, spatial effects and an incessant chord stab, head music for the heads indeed!

Losoul contributes to the Hypercolour resurgence that has pulled in left of center releases from the likes of Eliphino, West Norwood Cassette Library, Will Azada and Maya Jane Coles over recent months, with plenty more goodies lined up for the coming months ahead.

Until now, David Mayer needs to be on every radar as a young producer, breathing new life into classic Techno-virtues. Within his productions it seems to be the men-machine pulling the strings. They are grooving through plant floors, they are pumping blood into boilers and with just subtle manoeuvres, they are altering the soil temperature from stonecold to sweat inducing, depending on the current requirements.
Mayers new offering is directly taking on those qualities, while entitling it “Celsius”. It is indeed glowing floormaterial. It’s taking a rampant Techhouse-beat into a well heated Techno-basement, to add more and more condensing arrangements and finally open up for the instantly catching synth-hook. While he’s at it, Mayer controls a whole lot of scenes on the side. What he is offering here as particular finetunings and detailed soundmanipulations might lead into hourlong journeys under headphones. At the same time, the floor-efficiency of this tune couldn’t be more in your face. 
Then there’s the synth-tool on the flipside, leaving the kickdrum’s thickness behind, opening the door a bit more into the crystal clear synth-arrangements. Without a doubt, it’ll equip you with a tool, that’s letting the crowd feel save in the believe of having a little breather, to finally cook them in their own excitement in almost no time.
