The End Of Something

This is one of our reasonably rare forays into purely instrumental music (possibly more of that to come on the next recording, methinks....) It's sort of a sister to our song 'Elm', and as we didn't want to just call it 'Elm II' we decided to base the title on a Constable painting. Nothing wrong with a bit of pretension... As with many of our songs, this is very much about introducing an idea and then returning to it later, and putting different parts over different sections - in this case, the song follows an A-B-A structure, and the various guitar parts slide over both A and B sections, with the return to A at the end being almost imperceptible. So you pretty much have to stick out all 9 minutes for the full payoff. Sorry!

Study Of An Elm, 1821

In keeping with the lyrical theme of the EP, this title track is about  being ultimately forgotten, but it's also about passing the point of no return regarding climate change. We enjoy the contrast of putting dark, pessimistic lyrics to pretty music, and this is very much the case here.

This is the first song we ever recorded. The lyrics are a combination of samplings from a drunken conversation, and an expression of frustration with the world and conventional thinking.

Some Trail That Leaves The Others (original)

This is one of the first songs we recorded. Unusually, the lyrics came first, written about teenage angst and all that stuff. Violins supplied by the wonderful Joanne Buckland.

Water

This is the first full instrumental that we've written. We had barely practised it together before recording it, which was done as a live take. The title refers to the work of the physicist Ludwig Boltzmann, as described by Brian Greene in his book 'The Fabric Of The Cosmos'. We like science (see our track 'The End Of Something'). Boltzmann could well be our best song, and the mid-section with all the guitar overlays is probably the finest thing we've done.

Boltzmann Redux

We recorded this track live as part of our 'Live Sessions' record. We did one take with no rehearsal (having not played the song for quite a while), and this was the result. I think it came out pretty well. I think it's one of our best songs. I particularly like how it builds and progresses, especially through the key changes. Unfortunately, as with so many of our songs, the listener very much has to stick around all the way until the end to get the full effect. Forward says the lyrics are loosely based on our bassist, Fergus. Which is interesting.

Febria consists of five very good friends. After recording several EPs and playing many gigs around the UK, the band went on a long hiatus (hey, it works for Tool!), with members moving to London for work, returning to university and forming other excellent bands. Now, the band has reconvened and recorded more songs, with yet more to follow. We hope you enjoy them.
