While hanging with friends on an island in the Mississippi south of Trempealeau, WI, we were swapping river stories and heard one about how you can — very illegally — take your boat through the roller dam if the rollers are up and you don’t wanna wait for a barge to go through the lock, so we started writing a song on the spot. Years later, we finished it off when the guy who blew the rollers in the original tale hired us to play a party.
