DJ Gerald aka Himalaya Juice Culture or Nils Diezel in real life delivers the second catalogue number of Berlin-based label Fresh Tunez and the follow-up of Luca Piermattei's impressive Sounds From The Heart. DJ Gerald's five tracker, For President, is in no way inferior to Piermattei's composition as he comes in with four tracks that cover a versatile spectrum of sounds that complement each other on the one hand and lead to an overall nuanced listening experience on the other, partly aiming at the floors and partly aiming at the speakers or headphones at home. The B3, Hey Hey Stay One, is a two minute and forty-two seconds lasting construct that is as manifold as addictive and for sure makes the listener stay for one more track with the artist and his music. Starting off with spheric pads and a reverb Hey Hey Stay One is added a bass line and some vocals after roughly a minute. The cut vocals and backspin sounds accompany the spoken words before and after and add an almost HipHop-esque vibe to the track which feels home on the electrifying (electro) bass that is put under the before mentioned pads.

EXCLUSIVE: DJ Gerald - Hey Hey Stay One [Fresh Tunez]

Coming from the Netherlands, Dubtommy delivers the next ep number 43 called Immersion. After the remix of Addex track Across The Endline, he is returning with his first official ep on the label with 3 original tracks. His recent work was released on labels like MixCult Records, Stately Records, Electrolux Real MusiQ and Waehlscheibe to name a few. In his past releases, his distinct sound was mainly a process of deep-dub techno but in his Immersion ep he takes the ambient, slow and breakbeat approach that we find in his first two tracks.

The ep starts with Immersion which delivers spoken hypnotic words along the track with a breakbeat sound and atmospheric dreamy pad. Sound of chimes and the shakes are filling the track with tranquil feel. The second track is perfect for an intro set. Silhouette (Movement) has a pure ambient and calm sound that blends well with a two note bassline and soundscapes atmosphere in the background. Extending Curve finishes the ep with a deep house sound. Melody is present in this track by a driving synth sound, with the spoken words and reverb chords that are present sometimes in the track progression and blends well with the entire track's flavour.

Thorsten Vollmer the former half of the Leipzig (Germany) based live improvist & producer duo "Zone Ohne Obligationen", celebrates his comeback after 3 Years silence under Alias HIMBERT with his 12" Old Banger EP in 2022!

His gear, which will from now on mainly stay in his studio, is powered by his self-built off-grid solarsystem on his self-sufficient construction site in France near to Nancy. This explains why it was so long quiet about the current family man. Anyway, now it's getting loud again!

His sound cannot be described with genres. Always shuttling between many subgenres of underground Techno and House, he is on the lookout for the right vibe. Concise percussions, repititive elements, groovy basslines and dubby soundaesthetics are the common denominator.

Biography
Swedish DJ/producer Mattias Fridell has been actively involved in the techno scene since the 1990s, inspired early on by electronic dance music and the developing techno movement in Sweden.

In 2000 Fridell’s first record, cut with Alexander Johansson, was released and it garnered the duo a reputation as two of the more promising producers to look out for. Their music was subsequently played by some of the highest profile DJs as well as noted by Calle Dernulf a radio guru in Sweden who has been pushing techno and house music to the masses. From there Fridell and Johansson released their music on a succession of classic and legendary labels such as Audio Assault, ARMS and triple X Records.

When Johansson decided to take a six year break from electronic dance music, Mattias Fridell kept right on going.

For over a decade he’s released quality techno and other forms of electronic dance music, working along the way with a growing number of respected labels and artists. In 2010 Fridell teamed up with techno icon Glenn Wilson to create throbbing music and also launch the label project Tonal Path. He’s also collaborated with other producers from around the world and succeeded in reintroducing his old collaborator Alexander Johansson to the techno scene they’re now as strong as ever in their partnership.

While constantly implementing new ideas and retaining his signature sound, Mattias is always inspired to work several directions within dance music’s deep maze of rabbit holes.

From starting out in the 90s delivering the sound of authentic Swedish techno, his musical journey took him through a variety of musical twists. Along the way he’s salvaged everything from hard techno to classic Detroit inspired beats, down to a minimalistic approach as well as the work that defines his sound today, the dark, deep, industrial tones and rich, deep dubby flavours with lots of erosion and a smattering of dirt.

Working against the trends, but assimilating slices he likes along the way, Fridell will carry on producing his unique, innovative vibes.

DRONE Podcast 015 - Mattias Fridell

After beginning the unveiling process for our 16th birthday lineup at the beginning of the month with the 4 deck master Ben Sims, we've moved our way through the cast of artists who'll be bringing the magic to our 30 hour celebration with techno pioneer Marcel Dettmann completing the bill yesterday. In all we've lined up 14 guests to play alongside our residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis although there will be one more surprise to come at the party itself.
