The title of JOB 6 PAC's third collection of songs, PICK YOUR OWN, once again has a long O in one of the words to reiterate that JOB is JOHB, not JAHB. We'll assume that you know SIX is SIX and PAC is PACK. I think we're beyond it at this point. 

PICK YOUR OWN comes two years after CLOSED and some five years after PRONOUNCED. Contractual obligations are being met. Again, this collection finds our one person recording collective pushing the boundaries of what he is capable of. And, in turn, creating another joyful, glorious mess of catchy sound collages and thought-provoking ditties. In addition, the sculpting of the sonics has improved in this batch and guitars have been tuned in different ways. Tweak tweak tweak. There's something here for everyone. Well, maybe not everyone and most certainly only a few. OH, but the few contain multitudes! 

To put it in a single bag one would have to call it Psychedelic. Within those confines the listener will hear Celebratory Garage Stompers, Off-Kilter Instrumental Drone Poems, Soundtracks To Not Yet Existing Nightmares, Of The Earth Percussive Contemplations, and of course the Hark and Dumorous Plord Way that JOB so loves. Speaking of words, or lack thereof. Four out ten tunes on PICK YOUR OWN are instrumentals. Maybe the next one will have more instrumentals. Maybe it will have all instrumentals. Clearly, to do so would be commercial suicide. Maybe there won't be a next one. A new hobby may be in order. 

In the end PICK YOUR OWN reveals one human being's Obsessive Commitment to Art and Artistic Commitment to Obsessions. 

Or as JOB likes to say, "I'm just doin' it for the kicks, man. I dig it, so crank it!"

The Stompers are: Uncle Dave Lewis, vocals, guitar, second drums; William Gilmore Weber (recording engineer) & Troy Gallaher, guitars; Elle Crash, bass; Julia Heather Prescott, drums; Amanda Bowman, fiddle. I was down in New Orleans, speaking at a conference, when the BP Gulf oil spill began. My stepmother is a civic official in a local community, and much of what went into the lyrics were things I overheard at meetings that I attended with her, written on the plane on the way back to Michigan. The music was designed to sound like a loud, late party way out of control, the musical equivalent of a drunk guy swinging on a Bourbon St. lamppost at 3 am.

UDA 684 (<Anh1.19) Original version made in May 1988 and played on the Art Damage radio program numerous times before I punched a big hole, by accident, into the original master, which I later lost. Thankfully, Jones Baag had copied it, so the original mix is still around. But I happened to discover the edited tape of the verbal only, and recombined it with a 'new' loop that parrots, and I think improves upon, the loop used at first.
