Franc Spangler is back with three brand new cuts to form the Painted Lady EP. Spangler, also known as Jamie Odell also known as Jimpster returns to Delusions Of Grandeur following something of a hiatus since his 2010 EP Forever And A Day. Not that there hasn't been demand (following his brilliant remix of Norm De Plume for vinyl only label Kolour Limited) but with a busy gig schedule and two labels to keep on top of, the Spangler moniker has always been seen as a bit of a special side project where quality presides over quantity.

Title track Painted Lady kicks things off in ﬁne style with warm, deep house being the order of the day. Franc gets just enough dust in amongst the layering keyboards and echoing stabs to keep things the right side of smooth, the overall vibe is rolling with subtle FX and sounds poking through every now and then bringing a new element to latch onto.

Up next we have Lumpsucker, which brings us a lovely, blissed out, slice of electronica underpinned by classic TR707 beats adding just the right amount of jack to the track. We're getting hints of YMO and Balil with a lingering note of Larry Heard on the ﬁnish.

Finally, we're treated to the epic closer that is Camberwell Beauty. Mid tempo boogie beats with crunchy claps and steady hats lay the bedrock for a loping CS5 bassline whilst lush keys shimmer and swirl like little ﬂuffy clouds in a bright summer's sky.

Jimpster delivered some great releases in 2023, most notably his Natural Child collab EP with Crackazat as well as his Tribute EP featuring South African vocalist Mavhungu including heavy Osunlade remixes. He also produced some of his best remixes to date including Thakzin’s Don’t Let Me See, Blaze’s Wonderland and Detroit Rising’s Rocket Love. It’s always a good day to announce a new Jimpster EP on Freerange and with two captivating originals plus a stunning Atjazz remix you’re in for a treat!

Next up we have The Passion which builds a deep and jazzy mood around a 4 bar piano progression whilst the sampled interviewee gives his insight into how he maintains his passion for music. London based trumpet player KingCrowney adds some lovely horn parts, emphasising the jazz feel to compliment the spoken word.

Deardrums is the new project of two established Italian artists: Bottin and Leo di Angilla. Deardrums deploy an arsenal of analog drum machines (mostly played by hand!) in what feels like a neo-tribal soundscape, drawing from pre-Hispanic elements (think Mayan and Aztec, not Latin) and pseudo-African rhythms. Nearly all sounds, including bass and leads, are crafted with skillfully tuned drum synthesizers. Just after listening to the first couple of songs the project was immediately signed to Brooklyn’s 2MR, under the supervision of Italians Do It Better and Troubleman founder Mike Simonetti.

The fourth instalment in Hazards of Prophecy’s series rooted in the sounds of Brazil and global club culture.

In Brazilian slang, “Samba Brabo” literally means “fierce samba” or “badass samba” – and that’s exactly the vibe: hard-hitting drums and percussion infused with jazz keys, rich chords, and punchy horns. Job done.

On the flip, a “Sem Samba” (“without samba”) edit of Samba Brabo – laid-back and more minimal.

Pianist singer-songwriter / composer. Modern classic piano.
Influenced by Tori Amos, Bjork and Nils Frahm.
Violeta Reynal started performing as a singer and pianist at the age of 5. She became part of the classic piano scene and when she turned 30 began composing her first piano album Hipnosis. Electronic music became her passion as a teenager, thanks to her brother who introduced her to Chemical brothers, Moderat and Pink Floyd. She pursued a career as a dj in 2016, while living in Villa La Angostura, Patagonia Argentina. Later that year she started throwing parties in town and created a duo called Biotech Patagonia, where she improvised the vocals live, right on stage. In 2017 they had their first european tour and started producing their own tracks in 2018, where she would compose the synth arrangements and vocals. In 2017 she began producing vocals and piano arrangements for electronic artists like Mariano Mellino (Sudbeat) and Oostil (Afterlife). 
As a composer she´s working on her second album Reyna where she adds her voice to the piano. She is currently living in Barcelona, Spain with her cat Puma.
