Recently bought a used analog monosynth for cheap. Thought it'd be fun to make something with just that synth and my drum machine!

All sounds except for drums are courtesy of an IK Multimedia UNO synth. It's a cool little gadget! Pretty affordable for an analog synth, too. Drums are the 606 kit on my Roland TR-6S.

You don't have to spend a ton to make cool music! A $200 monosynth and some free software is all you need. (Yes I know a TR-6S is expensive and not free software, but again, I was using the 606 kit, you can find free 606 samples everywhere!)

Halogen

Not much to say. Needed a break from classwork, so opened Studio One, plugged in some synths, and had fun. Three synth tracks + a drum machine, coupled with some basic EQ, reverb, compression, and a little widening. Chords are an Arturia Microfreak, bass and lead are both a Novation Bass Station II, drums are the 808 emulation on a Roland TR6S.

Seek Will

This track is completely devoid of polish. Everything was one take, because I was just looking for a way to kill time until my sleep meds kicked in. Just jamming with myself and a drum machine at night.

All sounds are from an Arturia Microfreak, except for the drums, which are a Singular Sound Beatbuddy drum machine. Gave everything the lazy man's mixing of "Reverb and a limiter on the master, light EQ and compression on everything, and some chorus on the lead"

Insomniac

Recently finished the Mass Effect remasters. Mass Effect is one of my all-time favorite series, and unlike when I played it as a kid, I own a real analog synthesizer now, so I decided to riff on one of my favorite motifs from the series.

All sounds are from a Korg Minilogue XD, running into a Valhalla Supermassive and some standard-issue compression and EQ and whatnot.

VIgilant

Recently bought a new drum machine. Been having a ton of fun messing around with it, and decided to try improvising something life with it. Improvising at 5 AM doesn't always yield great results, but it IS fun! I still feel like I'm barely scratching the surface with this thing.

All sounds are from the "Lofi hip-hop" kit on my Roland TR6S. Postprocessing is some basic EQ and compression, Izotope vinyl for that worn-in, retro vibe, and finally a TAL Reverb 4 for even more 80s retro vibes.

Lofi Dreams

More screwing around with the TR6S! Trying more melodic stuff with it. Still feel silly for thinking of drum machines as just fancy metronomes when they've got all this cool harmony and melody stuff in them. Once I get a little more comfortable with this thing I'm going to start incorporating it with guitars, regular synths, and other gadgets for more full-fledged music!

As before, all sounds are coming from a TR6S. Kit this time is "Electro Dust," but with the open hihat swapped for the synth pulse that plays the melody.

Spacin'

More noodling around with the TR6S! Once I get more comfortable with writing melodies on a step sequencer, I might try to make a full album of chill ambient tracks.

Insomnia Electronica

Finally getting comfortable enough with the TR6S to play another instrument at the same time that it plays drums! Now if only I could figure out how to be competent on piano...it'll sound better if/when I do guitar instead, trust me.

Drums are the TR6S running the 606 kit, chords and bass are from a Juno-106 softsynth clone, melody line is from an OB-X softsynth clone. Only processing was some basic five-minute EQ on each track, plus some Isotope Vinyl and TAL Reverb 4 on the master track to give it a dose of lofi and 80s charm, respectively.

Retrograde (WIP IDEA)

Recently got some spare money, so decided to buy a Boss SY-1. This is a test of its abilities to turn a guitar into not-guitar!

Guitar is a Strandberg Boden Standard, turned into a synthesizer by a Boss SY-1 synth pedal, which is running straight into my Focusrite. All instruments are courtesy of that combo other than drums, which are Bedroom Producer's Cassette 606 vst.

Doctor SY-entist's Lab

Finally figured out my MIDI setup so now I can use my TR6S to sequence my VST drums, this was basically just a test of that. No real compositional ideas, just "Let's do some chords alongside the drum machine and record both parts live" and then "Hey this might be fun to solo over if I add a bass part" so then I did. Again, not really a ton to say, this was basically just to test the MIDI integration from the TR6S.

Both guitars are a Strandberg Boden going into a model of a cranked Marshall plexi. Lead also has some tape delay and plate reverb courtesy of a Boss DD-500 and RV-500, respectively, as well as fuzz from a BoG fuzzface. Drums are MT Power Drumkit 2 being played by my TR6S, bass is Ample Sound's APBL Lite.
