"Treasure Island is the name of a beloved beach town on the Gulf Coast of Florida," say the band. "The TI beachfront is home to a number of pretty iconic 1950s roadside architectural landmarks, like the Thunderbird Resort’s oversize neon sign, which we reference in the opening line of the song. It’s not a hidden-getaway type of spot but to us that beach always radiated a kind of magical healing energy. This song—whose basic rhythm track was composed and recorded in a 10-minute span at Rockaway studio in December 2018—was our humble attempt at bottling Treasure Island’s atmosphere, in musical form. Featuring “the funkiest drum machine ever,” according to Shags."

"Coordonnées", a kind of contemporary saudade shared by Pearl & The Oysters and Biche. It was born thanks to a long distance friendship and mutual admiration. It is about memories, complicity, and translates the urge to make music together despite the 9000km that separate us.

Ride Again is a lavish expansion on the sounds and styles of his previous record, 2015's Motorcycle Yearbook; a result of countless hours spent dwelling in the shadows at nightclubs and warehouse parties over the past decade. Drawing on solace and epiphanies that stemmed from the dance floor, he weaves together elements of New Wave with the groovy and persistent infectiousness of Techno and House.

“Backstreet Leather Toy,” is a synth-pop track ornamented with shimmering synth melodies, funky resonant basslines, and lush pads from the Juno-106 and Korg-M1. The track recalls the funk and R&B influences of his previous record, 2015's Motorcycle Yearbook, but updated with a new dance-pop sheen. The track has a summery, hanging-out-by-the-pier vibe reminiscent of 90’s acts like LFO or Steal My Sunshine by LEN, but with a touch of George Michael from the 80s.
Featured as a guest on this track is Sedona, who lends effortless drama to themes of adolescent abandon and bad behavior. The music video for “Backstreet Leather Toy” also stars Nation of Language guitarist Alex MacKay.

At the precipice of budot’s explosion from the Philippines, Obese.Dogma777 (Jorge Juan B. Wieneke V) is on the forefront of its expanse with a monumental 10 track mixtape, Mall Edits. born out of the friendship and collaboration with Chris Fussner, founder of Tropical Futures Institute. This project marks Obese.Dogma77’s retirement of his old pseudonym “silimarobjects” into a new journey of sonic self-discovery leaning on a more primal, intuitive and experimental sound. Mall Edits is his most recent endeavor which features a political, mutated iterations of club music and a recontextualizations of a Fiipino song and dance genre called Budots, slang for “slacker” in the Visayan language. Budots is an entirely unique subgenre of electronic dance and house music which originated from the streets of Davao City as a dance craze which swept the country, and which has then since been honed by legendary budots produce DJ Love to play at tropical DIY basketball court raves and metropolitan clubs alike. Now, ObeseDogma777 is foregrounding the barrier-breaking genre, rising from Manila’s underground and pushing it to the cusp of an international electronic music movement. 

Mall Edits is a potent blend of influences from Southeast Asia’s growing experimental electronic scene, fearlessly taking listeners across genres of internet music, trance, hyperpop, jungle, gabber, dnb, breaks and ambient, culminating into an avant garde crescendo that could only hail from the tropics own diverse melting pot of culture. With bright celestial tracks like Wala (Intro) and All Saints - Pure Shore alongside the dark, maximalist cacophony of Pisting Yawa (anniversary addition) and Wow Sabaw Chibao, Obese.Dogma77 leans into sonic excess, positioning budots as a gem of Southeast Asia’s underground while unapologetically enacpsulating the spirit of the Philipine’s limitless expanse.
