Give Congo! by @mrnjoi a smell and it’s a bonfire, a distinct touch of African drumming, jungle breeze, dancehall, birch tar, and tropical bass. njoi, 18 years young, has already been getting support from 4B and Wiwek for his tunes. This Mexico City native started making beats since he was 10 and by 15 finished his first track. We can thank Sinden’s Bodytonic Podcast for his re-emergence into the scene along with counting Swick, Major Lazer, and Zombies For Money as his major influences.

What started as a studio project is a now fully formed 12 piece band with members hailing from all corners of the globe with Karima Madut representing South Sudan, Percussionist Mavs Adegbite representing Nigeria, Alesano on steel pan being a super rare mix of Trini - Samoan, and Jinitero MC being far far away from his homeland of Cuba. They are joined up the mysterious Gaza Tripp on Guitar, Izak Chads also on Pan and the mighty Horns of Tekapo bringing the Brass blast. Together they have been storming the stage at some of the biggest festivals around New Zealand and Australia and now have their eyes firmly set on bringing this unique mix of global sounds to the world stage.

Feel Up Records Presents “Ready For This” Remix EP by @weird-together

Weird Together is a musical melting pot of talent. The 8-piece ensemble consists of two DJs, a vocalist, a two-piece horn section, a guitarist, a percussionist, and steel pannist. Their ethnic roots have global origins in Nigeria, South Sudan, South Africa, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, and New Zealand.

In “Ready For This,” lead vocalist Bianca passionately motivates the song’s call to action over the minimal backdrop of guitar plucking by The Gaza Tripp, the band’s string player. As the beat builds momentum, the percussion section strikes their booming hybrid sound: steel pans by New Zealander Izak Chads fuse with a digital melody and an all-out assault of drums that trigger a neck-breaking reaction. Needless to say, this jam will make you dance no matter what part of the world your in.

Two musically-rich regions: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Bristol, United Kingdom have the DJ/producer duo known as Jus Now as their unofficial musical ambassadors. While known through international music circles as cross-cultural beatsmiths signed to Feel Up Records (founded by Jillionaire of Major Lazer), Jus Now is continuing to build their global-minded brand through the Way Up Remixes. Jus Now’s newest offering, out today, is a compilation of reworked songs from this February’s Way Up EP, plus a remix of the title track from their Alone EP. 

Jus Now turned to their extended family of producers representing Tokyo, London, and New York to add a new layer to their catalogue. Part2Style, a Japanese sound system, remixed “Dun D Place,” the single from Way Up featuring Stylo G. The “Dun D Place” video, directed by Tom Swindell, featured some of Tokyo’s dancehall queens and influential figures in their nightlife scene directly influenced by the Caribbean. “I think the most important aspect to Jus Now is cultural exchange,” said Sam Interface one-half of Jus Now. “I feel like in this day and age there is so much anger and fear mongering in the mainstream media about people from other parts of the world and their cultural differences. We need to embrace each other’s differences, learn about them and celebrate them,” he added in an interview with Pigeons and Planes where Jus Now gave an exclusive preview of their Road Man Remix. Sly One from Bristol, is a fellow Bristol drum and bass collective who bring their rolling procession of thumps and whistle sound effects to “Way Up,” that mirrors Jus Now’s uptempo party vibe. When Jus Now’s LAZAbeam turned to Russian classical music to inspire the original Way Up EP, the Trinidadian percussion master and Sam Interface continue to push the envelope through their eclectic network of producers.

The high energy of New York City duo Fight Clvb continues to reach new heights on their newest single, “Control.” With additional production credits from Velvo, the smooth vocals of Kevin Cameron and bass-y Carribbean lyricism from Florida-based hip hop artist Popeye Caution, the chart-ready track is a collaboration of some of the biggest up-and-coming names in Caribbean and dance music today.

Born out of the Moombahton wave of early 2011, Fight Clvb carried on the subversive attitude of the genre and applied it to their impartial interest in high energy dance music. They linked up early on with AfroJack and had a series of successful Latin-influenced releases. Their sound has continued to develop and increase in scope after gaining support from some of the biggest names in the game such as DJ Snake, Diplo, and Dillon Francis. 

Each of the artists on “Control” add a distinct Caribbean / Latin flavor to create a powerhouse track that is as diverse as it is accessible. Fight Clvb notes, “The overall tonality and approach originated from listening to Major Lazer’s last album Peace Is the Mission. We set out to create something that would embody a worldly feel, something all-inclusive, a track anyone can vibe to. We’re known for making electronic music but this song transcends that.”

Kyle dePinna is an accomplished Producer, DJ, Music Video Director, Creative Consultant, and Entrepreneur based out of Los Angeles CA. He is also known to most by his stage name, Neo Fresco. On Soundcloud alone, his Neo Fresco project has accumulated over 3.5 million plays. His most popular track is his remix of Major Lazer's "Bubble Butt" which has amassed over 1M plays and over 50k downloads.

He has teamed up with Splurt to release their new single, "Can't Stop". Splurt describes his lyrics as a story inspired by a dream he had, he uses a dancehall style delivery and refers to a relentless mad man on a high octane pursuit of a girl driving at top speed on an island road with tons of propane in the back of a truck and finally waiting impatiently for a girl outside her gated house. Splurt says it's typifies his shadow self and alter ego that has woven in and out of his life.

Their track "Can't Stop" was actually a long time in coming. Neo Fresco first produced the beat a couple years back. The artists had become friends through doing work for Major Lazer back in 2015. Neo Fresco had sent the track to Splurt and together they came up with a bunch of different ideas and after some rearrangements and mixing both their styles with blending Caribbean influences the demo eventually became "Can't Stop". It is being released by Jillionaire of the the chart-topping group Major Lazer's own record label, Feel Up Records.
