KALEJDOSKOP II

As an introduction to Johnny Dyani, you can here listen to my 90-minute Dyani special from Swedish National Radio's programme Kalejdoskop from December 2012. In these selections you can hear bits of J.D's musical collaborations with Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim), Okay Temiz and Louis Moholo among others. But most of all you can hear Johnny Dyani, solo, with his bass. Some tracks come from the hard to find album "African Bass" which was originally only released in Italy in the 70s. And some tracks come from the even harder to find album "Witchdoctor's Son" which was released in Turkey. Both albums are long out of print and have never been pressed on CD. The last 10 minutes have nothing to do with Johnny Dyani though, it is a long track from the early 70's with the South African jazz band Batsumi. But the intro to that song makes me think of Johnny everytime..

Boredom

I did this trial version of a radioprogram called "Kalejdoskop" in the fall of 2005. Spoke with the Swedish Radio P2 about it and they agreed for a continuation, and sending a show made by myself. But life came in between and nothing out of it in the end.
But it was a good try...
