This song testifies to the point where I was just tired of exhausting myself. My day could seemingly be going well then I would have a memory that honestly I ran from but somehow also healed at the same time pop right back into my mind. It amazed me how my emotions were still tied to people and events from the past, so much so I couldn't form anything new. I didn't want to be around people because paranoia had firmly set its place in my life, and I was simply existing, not living. I missed having a life! I started running toward peace instead of the validation I often sought. Musically I wanted to have a blend of rock and funk exist within a song. I wanted a nice groove to the song because it's about having that sense of release, that freedom from the moments that tore you apart. Even if nothing around you has changed, a different mental space can completely shift your life. I've gotten a peace that for years I never thought I'd see again.

One thing I've learned about going after a music career is that if you stop trying to control every single little thing, you'll begin to truly enjoy it. Everything can be overwhelming, not just creating music but figuring out how to market, what platforms to use, and how much money you should place here and there; it's exhausting. However, in that quest, you have to protect yourself from what you may be standing beside. When people see how badly you want something, they will use it against you. I had to learn to read between the lines with people and understand the value I have as a singer and a person.

"Tears that fall are remedies" I can not tell you how much I detested showing emotion. Even crying in solitude was a struggle for me. There was difficulty with admitting that people had broken me down to the point where I felt numb. I'd rather dive into unhealthy voices than submit to my emotions. However, I genuinely gained peace when I allowed myself to feel again. Running from your feelings does not allow enjoyment in your life and creates a barrier between you and true happiness.

Living to see another day is something that should not be taken lightly. I had to remind myself it's ok to feel your emotions but never let your past wounds keep you chained to your past.

RIDIN ON A MELODY

Singing has always provided almost an instantaneous sense of comfort. I come from a family rooted heavily in deep southern blues. I love raspy, deep vocals, growling vocals, slide guitars, electric guitars, and laying everything out within a song. As a singer, my music embodies that almost rough, unpolished, raw, and gritty essence you get listening to blues music. I love bringing rock and funk into my songs because it further just takes over you and places you where you need to be. I'm heavily inspired by Curtis Mayfield, not only because of his obvious mastery of musicianship but because he has this ability to speak on hardships in life. These things can be emotionally draining but keep you dancing at the same time. Other influences I look to include Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Lauryn Hill, Otis Redding, and Alicia Keys. When listening to my music, I hope you can enjoy it, move to it, get lost in it, and come back again.
