Mr. Mendel has been a RH store customer for over a decade. He pops in for listening sessions on a regular basis, yet not for hours and hours like he did a few weeks ago. The broadly inspired DJ checked the racks in many corners before he started recording. His store mix became lengthy, featuring 26 tracks.

Growing up in Amsterdam, Mendel started out in the city’s hip-hop scene. Later, when he worked at Waxwell Records, he got further introduced to many styles of music, broadening his musical horizon from Brazilian to African music, and from disco to soul to house music. Today, Mr Mendel tours extensively through Europe and beyond and releases edits on Lumberjacks in Hell, Disco Deviance and Basic Fingers.

He's in fine form; first serving up the punchy, horn tooting, Latin-tinged, two-step disco-boogie of "Love Break", where a catchy female vocal rides a sumptuously warm and rich backing track. Over on side B, the dusty-fingered digger has his way with "Breakin'", a tropical disco cut from the Caribbean full of ear-catching bass guitar, bold horn lines, clipped guitars and eyes-closed electric piano solos."
