Cellist Emily Burridge has had a long association with my earlier collaborator BJ Cole, so it was nice to get to work together over the lockdown period. I play my Bergerault bass marimba (the lowest notes are in the middle sections) and Emily plays her electric cello and did all the fiddly balance stuff! This is a suite of eight short sections; the individual pieces are, in order, Wychwood, Mirkwood, Birdwood, Driftwood, Wormwood, Underwood, Heartwood and Greenwood. The image is a painting of our birchwood by my wife, Catherine Rickman.

Into Dust

A short sample/arrangement of the Beestaara 20 stringed "Indian Cello" built by Alexandre Lettelier at the Nouvelle Lutherie Lab. Comprised of 5 or 6 multi-tracked layers playing together however no reverb or EQ has been used on the recording.

This is a short clip of the "Suuk Huur", a Siberian one-stringed fiddle, extremely rare instrument made from a bull's bladder(!). This is recorded to a simple electronic drum loop, however the fiddle recording has no reverb or EQ at all so you can hear the exact sound of this curious instrument.
