Seeking records to play at a festive setting is perhaps the seminal activity that helped lay the foundations for this artform called DJing, the primal act that came to define it as a unique mode of artistic expression. After all, what is now known as “digging”, the exploratory endeavour that precedes the act of playing out, is a fundamental aspect of the whole creative process that links a performer to its audience. This curatorial intent is what sets it apart from something as trivial as browsing for records and amassing a colossal amount of them for personal enjoyment. Thus, between the collector’s mind and a selector’s soul lies the generosity of bringing the crowd along for a journey of deep discovery. One at the same time of music and self that can be entertaining at the very least, but enlightening at its very best. Our current guest mastered the craft of weaving these rhythmic threads in enthralling tales that take us across not just grooves and moods, but entire worlds of sounds and sensations. This is what happens when someone is imbued with a mission that goes beyond a mere profession and what Romain FX brings to every single one of his endeavours, especially exquisite mixes such as this one that carries an unrelenting energy throughout, constant but far from being linear.

Panaroma Bar resident and longtime IsBurning regular https://soundcloud.com/massimilianopagliara has been based in Berlin for several years where he's been one of the main forces behind recombining the city's hardboiled techno scene with an often overlooked sensibility for the soft and the tender. Call it underground disco passion.

For his entry to our podcast series he serves up a tantalizing techno set and has this to say about his favorite track in it:
“Megatrance by Voiski is one of my all time favorite tracks and I drop this almost every time when I play a techno set. Like the title suggests, this track has a huge trance - psychedelic vibe to it, that can take you to another dimension.”

Always the best vibes when Amanda plays. After numerous apperances at IsBurning, it’s now time for a podcast, combining the sounds of techno, acid, breaks and house. São Paulo based DJ, producer and label/agency boss Amanda Mussi works hard to bring something fresh to the dancefloor. 

This mix is a great example of combining sounds and bringing something fresh, mostly known for her technosets. For the podcast she’s starting with dubby chords, lurking us in to some sleezy house, with acid influences. Everytime you think you’ll get the direction, she misleads you in the most funky danceable way. 

Track highlight: 
Devoye - Radius Clause - Carry Nation Compilation [Nervous Records]
This track has such a nostalgic jackin vibe from NYC's house music and reminds me how great the scene is there, Devoye is a talented nice guy and this was released in a compilation curated by The Carry Nation, which are true legends from there, in Nervous Records which is one of the oldest NYC's record labels, since the 90's. This tune is sassy and fun, yet badass, one of my favorites from last year.

DJ Hellie has been an integral part of the Amsterdam DJ scene for over ten years, working front and back office with passion and ferocity. She prefers vinyl, and her sets build a brilliant bridge between old and new music. 

Hellie’s feminist activism brought her to co-host a radio show called ‘Women’ with Naima Bouchtaoui. She also co-founded an all-femme booking agency, Pique. The femme-led parties Hellie started in Amsterdam pre-corona, were aptly named Voortouw (a Dutch word that signals the concept of taking the lead). Voortouw has now morphed into a monthly radio show on Echobox. In the show, Hellie shares new music made mostly by women and occasionally features guests or even live performances by other femme artists. 

With this 1,5 hour mix she showcases her diverse taste and style. It’s light footed, heavily danceable and unapologetically taking the lead to a grand finale!
