Mory Kanté is an African singer from Guinee. His father ‘El Hadj Djelifode’ was tribal chief of the ‘Griots’, he had 38 children and died at an age of 109. In 1987 Mory Kanté scored a world hit with his song ‘yéké yéké’, which was later remixed and played a lot by Richie Hawtin. ‘Le Griot’ is an extremely danceable African disco gem which was released in 2001 within his album ‘Tamala’. Inspired by the African cassette tapes from my father, I started playing African Disco and Funk in Amsterdam in 2010. After traveling in different continents, I started experimenting with sounds from all over the world. Where I used to play a bit more uptempo, nowadays I am focussing on a deeper and more atmospheric sound. Blending different genres and tempos is something that is appealing to me. From Nigerian funk to Amazon tribe music, everything is possible.
