Crystal, also known as cry$cross, is a multisensory creative and DJ based in Brooklyn, NY. She’s also a resident DJ on Half Moon BK. With a focus on sustainability, activism, and healing, she uses music to give black and brown people the freedom to be who they are on the dancefloor. She is known for her playful, genre-bending club mashups and her unique personal style. Her infectious energy behind the decks is guaranteed to have your body moving and your booty bouncing.

Auntie Starr is a Brooklyn-based DJ, event producer and programming director at Half Moon BK. Known for her infectious energy behind the decks, Starr's sound ranges from high energy club and dance music to 140+ juke and techno. She is also the curator of a spicy new monthly party, LIP SERVICE, which serves as a safe haven for QTPOC on the dance floor.

What inspired this mix?
Crystal - Our friendship heavily inspired this mix. We spent a few nights together just playing around on the XDJ’s, being goofy; our usual routine. We started by playing a few of our favorite songs and created a tracklist out of that. Our first time playing together was at the old Half Moon studio back early 2019, which is around the first time we met. Who knew that we would be recording our first b2b mix a year later!
 
Starr - This mix is inspired by the joy I get from being with friends, the tender ways we hold each other, and dancing together until the sunrise. Crys and I going b2b was so special. We met around this time last year and been inseparable since; this mix is sort of like an ode to friendship.
 
What makes you feel powerful?
Crystal - Honestly this might sound cliche, but dj’ing makes me feel powerful. It’s a feeling you don’t always have the pleasure of experiencing. It’s sort of like an adrenaline rush.
 
Starr - Laughter! Laughing makes me feel so powerful. It’s like for a moment life is overwhelmingly pleasurable; so pleasurable that you laugh, you smile, you feel good. And to me, feeling good is powerful.
