Fen Doi's self-titled debut EP offers four bangers with a good portion of nostalgia.

The opener 'Meteor' is a new wave-inspired powerhouse with a touch of acid. 'Your Universe' is a catchy and emotional retro-heater. 'Sol 101' makes you want to gaze at the night sky and wonder about your place in the cosmos, whilst getting lost in the rhythm. The playful finisher 'Source Joy' closes the EP with a fair amount of weirdness.

Fen Doi – Previews

THYMIAN and Fen Doi have been collaborating musically for several years now. They are both members of a local psychedelic indie rock band and share a close friendship. Therefore it was only a matter of time until the two would begin working together as solo artists. THYMIAN's synth-infused post-punk sound and his powerful voice go well with Fen Doi's nostalgic but driven new-wave inspired dance music.

The result is a high-energy remix of THYMIAN's "A Great Divide" that gives the song a dark and mechanistic feel and leaves you sweating on the dancefloor. Acid-basslines and reverb-drenched guitars pave the way for an uplifting break that preserves the vibe of the original song's chorus.

Desire is the first single from indie electronic artist Fen Doi's upcoming debut-album New Horizon, releasing on May 31st 2024. Desire captures both a deep longing for personal growth as well as the underlying melancholy that often goes with having to let go of who you once were. The song draws inspiration from post-punk and darkwave acts whilst deliberately abstaining from the use of guitars, giving it a unique, genre-bending character.

Brighter Now is a tale of encouragement, urging you to dance your way into a brighter future and overcome the mental obstacles holding you back. The third single off Fen Doi’s upcoming debut-album is colorful and driven, but also soothing and gentle. It draws inspiration from indie-electronic pop as well as the more melancholic synth sounds of the 80s.

Indie electronic artist Fen Doi offers a colorful and driven sound that seamlessly navigates between melancholy and joy, leaving you with a sense of hope and determination, encouraging you to dance your way into a brighter future. 

Fen Doi is the creative outlet of Zurich-based producer, drummer and singer Neil Lauper. Drawing inspiration from a wide variety of artists and styles, his music is truly genre-bending. Influences include post-punk and darkwave acts such as Drab Majesty or Boy Harsher as well as more pop-oriented indie electronic artists like Rüfüs Du Sol, Bob Moses or Roosevelt. In its essence, Fen Doi’s sound is a fusion of the genres most formative to his musical journey so far: rock and electronic dance music. 

Former releases gained support from respected names in the electronic dance music scene such as Ellen Allien (at Boiler Room Sydney), Curses, Perel, or Reka and received air play on Swiss National Radio (SRF) as well as smaller local radio stations.
