FERDINAND - THE MIND SPEAKS [PROD. MOB AGE]

Born Putlane Ferdinand Mogoba on October 22nd 1997, Ferdinand hails all the way from Limpopo, South Africa. From the moment he could kick a ball, Ferdinand had always loved playing soccer as a little boy in the dusty streets of Seleteng Ga-Mphahlele and later in Mentz Ga- Mamabolo where his family later moved to. As it is the norm in every township in South Africa, little boys from the same neighbourhood would gather in the dusty streets of their neighbourhoods to play soccer and that is where some of their aspirations to become professional soccer players are birthed. Life- long friendships are sometimes formed right there.  Ferdinand was just another one of those boys with the same aspirations because he had a promising future as a soccer player. When he finally moved to Johannesburg in 2009 to live with his mom, Ferdinand was in the 6th grade. He went on to join a soccer team and then another, but he soon realized that soccer was no longer for him and he eventually quit. 

How his journey with music started was when he began to take an interest in making music and this started with him writing songs in grade 9 to pass the time. This went on until the 11th grade. He gradually gravitated towards music and this happened because he had a classmate who was a rapper. His classmate would write and rhyme all the time and this fascinated him so much that he decided to learn how to do it. From spending time with his classmate, he then learned to write, rhyme and flow. It was during this time spent with his new friend that he wrote his first song. He later performed the song at church as a solo act. The rest is then history.

Family is important to him and he has maintained healthy bonds with his immediate and extended family over the years. He is the first of three children, with his only sister as his youngest sibling. As much as he’s a musician, Ferdinand prefers to refer to himself as a multi-talented creative who is passionate about using his voice to reach the masses and doing it through music is just one of those ways. He’s a student of the game and is continually experimenting to find new ways of doing things. He’s a sucker for perfection and he prides himself in his strong work ethic.
He writes his music to self-produced instrumentals and engineers his own music. What he’s learnt from being in control of the creative process is that it’s a lot easier than people think. But what he’s also learnt about making music is that it’s important to stick to the basics and build on that. What he enjoys most about being a musician is the ability to transcend cultural barriers and connect with others through music. He explores overlooked themes and he approaches them in an intriguing way through his clever use of words. He feels that we need to learn something – even from the music.
He is a firm believer in that creatives are influencers and that they influence society through things like art and music. He went on to take a break in 2018 to acquire skills in beat making and he learnt all that through YouTube tutorials. He is currently immersing himself in audio engineering (vocal mixing) and this will ultimately contribute to the independence he’s working towards as an artist. When he’s not working on his own music, he makes beats and produces music for other artists.

His latest release, Ball & Chain is out across all digital platforms. Much like all his music, the song speaks to his personal experiences.
