First movement mm 120 of a 3 movement piece for violin and piano from 1992 dealing with catastrophe, specifically a cusp catastrophe. The same opening music for the three different movements is pushed in three different directions. The performers were tired at the time of the recording and don't want to be named, but it's still pretty good. Commissioned by Rubato Dance.

Cusp for violin and piano  3rd Movement

Shepherds tending their flocks on the remote island of Inis Mhic Uileáin heard this lament sung by a woman who appeared before them one night. Her song told of her being trapped by the spirits of the underworld, and how, while she was free at night, she would have to return every morning before dawn to the underworld and to her spirit form. A púca is a shape-shifting creature from the other world.

Commissioned by Artsada, for Emma Coulthard, this is the studio realisation. The flute uses a sliding headjoint enabling glissando effects.

Planxty Emma Coulthard, for flute and electronics

commissioned by NSOI in 1996, performed here by Eleanor Dawson, and NSO Ireland conducted by David Brophy. Three movements, inspired by character of Cassandra from "Women of Troy" by Euripedes. Loosely, the three movements are Cassandra rages, Cassandra weeps, Cassandra dances.
