HighHat presents HighCast: our monthly mix series introducing you to friends and influences alike. We journey through the sounds we enjoy the most, a podcast series uniting the underground music scenes of Liverpool and São Paulo.

For our first mix we invite a long time friend from São Paulo, Soul Ares. With a residency at Boli, a collective bringing content and parties to the streets of São Paulo, he is a dedicated record collector specialising in 90s house gems, but able to easily navigate through multiple genres. With constant appearances at top parties and big clubs like D-EDGE, he is constantly consolidating himself in the city’s underground scene.
This time, Soul Ares brings his most intimate records for HighHat.

HighCast #001: Soul Ares

The next instalment of HighCast brings Valdrigh and Dahaw, carrying the HighHat flag in Brazil. Both have proven to be adept record collectors, bringing their house forward sounds to the parties of São Paulo. In this vinyl only mix, the duo begin to consolidate their collaborative project, giving us a flavour of their darker and more cavernous cuts, providing a taste of their identities and chemistry behind the decks. 

Delivering fluid and energetic tunes, developed through good years in the studio and their love for music. Passionate about timeless timbres, they bring in their selections old-school influences that smoothly pass between house sub genres, always exploring the musical taste of the present and the characteristics of each track they command. They have already performed alongside the likes of Gene On Earth, The Ghost and Carrau.

A mainstay of Sao Paulo’s electronic music for more than three decades, Mau Mau helped shape it from its glorious seminal days up till the bountiful and vibrant moment where it finds itself right now. A harbinger of most things Techno that blossomed in the city and the country at large, he’s a master in the art of groove interlacing and boundary bending, crafting exhilarating sets that are irresistibly danceable and irreproachably approachable. The one we present here brings the exact same attention to execution and careful selection that put him up there with our greats and kept him throughout the ages.
