This EP chronicles a recent life chapter. I learned that I swallow a lot of words and opinions before I even let myself have them. I learned that nature is a refuge. I learned that water has memory and that my body carries it. I learned that for my own sanity and mental health, I have to get out of my head and into my body. More than ever, I relied on my Grandmother’s wisdom, even if I don’t necessarily follow her religion. And I learned to look at my shadows and not try to do anything about them.

This song was written from love, with love, as we contemplated our relationship with both Spirit and our ancestors. “Anaha ya,” they say, when we wonder where they are or if they care. “Here I am, right here beside you,” they whisper, through our deepest joys and sorrows.

This song marks our first time specifically connecting our Afro-indigenous language and spirituality to our music and it was a joy every step of the way, especially since we both have spent our lives in far off lands away from Garifuna community.
