Episode 1: Set the Table 

In the first episode of the Fertile Ground podcast we open up with Daniel Johnson from Significant Developments, Nick Wallace from Nick Wallace Culinary, and Dr. Mukesh Kumar from the City of Jackson discussing the ambitions of the Fertile Ground project in Jackson, Mississippi, one of five cities selected as a recipient of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Art Challenge.  

The Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Art Challenge seeks to support innovative temporary public art projects that enhance the quality of life in cities. The Public Art Challenge encourages cities to use public art to address civic issues. Our focus for the Fertile Ground project is food access. This project is meant to take an arts-based approach at elevating and discussing these food issues in Jackson.

Fertile Ground Podcast Episode 1

Through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Art Challenge, the City of Jackson Mississippi aims to address complex food access issues in the city. Their project “Fertile Ground: Inspiring Dialogue About Food Access,” will enlist an interdisciplinary team of local and national artists, landscape architects, filmmakers, farmers, chefs, nutritionists, and community members. The project teams will come together to create a city-wide exhibition with installations, performances and programming. Workshops and panels will address challenges stemming from a proliferation of fast food restaurants in the area and the need for healthy food opportunities for the community.
