I wanted to do a mix using some of the live mashup routines I dropped at events like Reggae Garden in Swindon, Reggae City in Birmingham and Roots Yard at Shambala last summer, alongside some of the dope remixes and full tracks I've been downloading since then. Massive respect to all the artists and remixers of Soundcloud who's tracks I've used on this mix. Please check out the links to the originals and show some love there too.

There's so much dope music out there combining elements of hip hop with different Jamaican styles and it's not really surprising as these are two musical genres that are intrinsically linked, sharing rhythmical roots in Africa and both heavily influenced by American Blues, Jazz and Soul. 

Kool Herc took the Jamaican sound system concept to New York in the late 70s and helped create hip hop, often from funk records with lyrics that echoed the revolutionary message of rasta. 

The creative recycling process of dub music can be closely compared with the tradition of sampling, and emceeing and rapping aren't really so different from a dancehall dj toasting. 

Significantly,both styles reflect a culture that is all about rising above oppression and sufferation.


Dubhoppin; Inner B-Boy Skankz ---- VOL. 3 ---- by dj feva

Another mashup for the wu ragga collection.
The beat is based around Bobby Konders hip hop remix of the Super Cat tune, but also re-uses some of the samples used in that production as well as the dancehall original of Ghetto Red Hot and the classic Bob James sample that's used on the original Wu tune.

This also features B.I.G and O.D.B, (dead poets society CAPital punishment division) 
Got much props for killing corrupt cops with buckshots.

Maximum respect, blessings and everlasting peace to all these amazing artists who are sadly no longer with us.

This would definitely benefit from an improved final mix and master, but this is about as good as I'm gonna get it sounding right now, any feedback on levels, bass frequency, eq, reverb etc.much appreciated, I've gotta start learning this side of music properly.

Cuts and drum programming are mine, backing track basically follows the original which is why the bpm is kind of fluid.

This is a half hour battle set that I put together for the first round of a local dj contest. I'm treating the contest as something in-between a scratch battle and a reggae soundclash, so this is a high energy thing that moves through several genres.

I performed it live on 8/11/12 at the battle (suki10c dj destruction competition) and also on renegade radio on 11/11/12, thought I might as well make a recording and share it with you too.

Performed with serato on two technics and rane mixer  (thanks for the lend Muz) I'll be getting my own one if i win the contest!
