Extract from 8 channel work created at GRM studios. The 100 Words.

The 100 Words was commissioned by GRM for the Presences Electronique Festival and first performed in CENTQUATRE 104 there in 2012.
It was developed at the GRM studios for an 8 channel system and then performed for the 24 speaker- acousmonium.
The concept of the piece is based on the idea of the physical manifestation of words through speech and sound. 
100 words are convoluted onto different strata of sound in extreme sound ranges, with the idea of creating a very physical experience
of speech. The words are hardly recognizable, but there remains a trace of an attempt at communication in language, which is always thwarted
by the extreme magnification of the sound gestures.

The 100 Words (extract)

"In-Somnia" originates from recordings of a soundwalk I did in a last winter late night in the suburbs of Bologna (IT). 
In the loneliness of this context I was attracted by different sounds whose real source was mostly hidden to my sight. 
In particular I followed a strange bird-call-like sound which became more and more unreal as much I got close to his source point, which was revealed to me only when I was in front of it: a broken car alarm which produced irregular impulses instead of the common continuous sound. 

I consider the piece my interpretation of this personal sound epiphany experience, and more in general (for those who didn't experienced it) a wander throughout mental, real and surreal soundscapes, in a perpetual search for something unknown.

In-Somnia

Composer, performer and sound projectionist. He is mainly interested in live electronic music and acousmatic music.
He has collaborated with several musicians as Luciano Berio, David Moss, Uri Caine, Jim Black, Sonia Bergamasco, Jonathan Faralli, Elio Martusciello, Giovanni Nardi and Francesco Canavese, also by founding the SDENG duo and the ZUM trio projects for electroacoustic music improvisation.
