On a train: the Crescent City line
To my hometown for Christmastime

I was watching out the window
As the train pulled out into the snow
The western sky was glowing red
as the night turned purple overhead

Between the sunset and the evening stars
Planes were leaving long white scars
I’d given anything to be up there
Flying far away from here

That was years ago
The last time that I went home
Now I’d give anything to go back where I belonged

Oh, to walk down those familiar streets
In the town that held my secrets deep
To see the soft glow of the Christmas lights
In the windows around the old house of mine

To feel the warmth of Christmas from years ago
But things have changed so much I know
We all have gone separate ways
And it all feels so far away

Everyone I’ve known has come and gone
Friends and family that I depended on
That world is gone
And I stand alone 
I just want to go back home where I belong

If Christmas wishes did come true
I would have a million reason to 
Get back on the crescent city train
