Breaking out on Figure with an exciting debut double EP in 2020, the Arthur Robert now returns with yet another equally impressive pair of records.Here the artist once more shows his unique mix of psychedelic elements with a deep hypnotic edge and a straight-up dancefloor approach.

This two-part release comes as a varied collection of strangely beautiful melodies and lively modular sounds that infuse each track with far more life than is visible on the surface.

Transition Part 1 starts out strong with stomping kicks and crushing percussion, it’s the glitchy effects that etch in a memorable listening experience.

Transition Part 2  continues Arthur Robert’s reduced style, opening with a sleek tunnel-vision thumper, but then deviates for a playful breakbeat space exploration in collaboration with like-minded modular nerd Naty Seres. Eventually closing out the B-side of his strong 8-track package, Robert first boils the energy down to essential deep minimalist trip first, then ramps up the levels one last time for an exquisite example in rumbling dub-techno.

Both parts of the Transition EPs firmly establish Arthur Robert further as an expert craftsman, merging the sonic textures of psychedelic jams with the forceful rhythms and intricate melodies of purist techno.

Versatility and virtuosity are the common threads woven into her productions, such as her recent album with Unrush founder Mareena Altas Der Gedanken on Muzan Editions. The same can be said for her mix here, which features everything from traditional southern Laotian music to øjeRum and Steve Roach. As a close friend and collaborator of Unrush, her contribution is long overdue. We couldn't conceive of a better artist to bring us into the warmer months with a glimmer of hope and a glimpse into the infinite...

Jerusalem born and London based Biri has long been a part of the extended Figure family, first releasing on Figure Jams in 2019, appearing again on the electronica compilation series Open Space. With Figurex36 we finally get his first full solo EP, and it’s a proper statement of his artistic breadth as an accomplished techno producer.

Proving his club-readiness, opener Point Zero comes with all the right assets: functional, fast and equipped a propulsive bass-charge that ramps the velocity alongside grooving slabs of synth for a searing finale. A beautifully intertwined web of chopped up amens and cascading arps is Upward Spiral, showcasing Biri’s gathered influences from living in both London and Berlin. On the flip there’s Clarity, an atmospheric roller of booming bassline, brooding trance stabs and no-nonsense rhythmics. Towards the end Biri takes things deeper, blending bleeping melodies on Rotation Of Consciousness to slowly build up an icy intensity, which surges until it pervades all of space around the stomping beat. Bonus track Rather See My Heart Turn Crystal comes only on the digital release, telling a story of melancholy and longing through swelling synths and broken percussion.

This third and final installment of the Fusion remix series sees Len Faki personally select from his most beloved producers to expand on his ambitious album project Fusion that was released as a double LP in 2023.

First up is Herbert’s trippy rework of Don’t Be Stupid Day, one of the album’s most memorable vocal cuts. Herbert’s Brain Dub transforms the track slowly and playfully, using the witty lyrics for crafting catchy hooks.

Irish powerhouse Cromby has two appearances on this EP, getting to revamp the more house-leaning productions from Fusion. His take on It’s Time (to Move Your Body) is grooving grand, its bubbling acid riff and dancing hi hats teeming with life. Meanwhile, the Blackjack remix further energizes the original’s shiny centerstage synths, crazily riding the pitch up and down for an all-out party.

Finally, the brotherly duo Glaskin are reshaping the ambient album highlight Gamma into a highly effective, reduced but propulsive, tunneling techno affair.

Len Faki - Fusion Remixes 03/03 - Figure X42

On Figure X45 we are presenting a new up and coming artist, Jancen. With only a handful releases under his belt, this promising young dutchman delivers immaculate productions that veer between the deep and the jacking, always powerful and driving but with a strong sense of groove pervading throughout.

His opener Quintessence leans on the hypnotic side, distilling the effect of a mesmerizingly simple loop reduced to the beauty of its essential elements. Racking up the momentum is tightly bouncing Elusive, riding a funky acid riff that morphs transforms the track into one of those unexpected moments of raising the energy mid-set.

On the B-side, Jancen showcases his talent of building mind-expanding dub-techno excursions, as the echoes of Diminished Dub roll out while even packing some proper propulsive percussion on top! Final track Unattributed takes us way down the rabbit hole into atmospheric trippy territory as searing hats pave the path ever further into the belly of the beast.

For buyers of the digital package, Frostbite sits somewhere in between all of the above, combining sparse stabs of resonant synths with thumping kicks and a pumping rhythm to find that complex equilibrium of depth and charge...

BCCO Premiere: Jancen - Elusive [FIG45]

The time has finally come to have Kwartz in this house again and we couldn’t be more satisfied with the quality of the work he has delivered. It is clear that his new residency at the best techno club on the planet, Berghain, has helped his inspiration multiply exponentially and this is definitely reflected in this brand new work that leaves us wanting more.

Four slices of techno with all the letters, which define exactly what the genre should be without seasonal additives, dynamic electronic dance music, without an expiration date, which could be signed thirty years ago or in the distant future.

Mario does not entertain himself with extreme speeds, nor with predictable developments, nor with pre-cooked sounds. His approach to musical creation is slow and artisanal, meditating and maturing each of the ingredients he uses, without fear of being left out of the media radar.

This entire procedure is reflected in the excellent result, The Golden Hour is a perfect example of everything said above. Strong and firm rhythms, constantly evolving arrangements, elaborate sound design and a firm dance attitude.

Enter The Zone turns the rhythm towards broken bass drums, slightly presses the accelerator and introduces disturbing atmospheres combined with organic percussion details in a masterful way. A true catalyst for expert mixers.

On side B, Under Control once again breaks tradition with a broken, hypnotic and continuous rhythm, a first-rate brain driller for the club's peak moments.

The EP ends with Animal Instinct, which does not lower the intensity one bit, adding an overwhelming rhythm with dynamic percussive details, with no room for rest, perfect for the dancers to travel to unknown dimensions.

Preview: Kwartz - Under Control EP [PoleGroup75]

'Elocution’, the third Figure EP from portuguese producer Lewis Fautzi, again displays a high degree of versatility but still comes cleary cut for the club.

Employing a rich yet spacious sound design, Fautzi creates cinematic scapes that are at once both brimming with the hums of colossal interstellar machinery yet at the same time leave enough room for a range of carefully sculpted elements to do their work. Whether it be the twisted acid arpeggio on opener Shizophrenia, the imposing drones underscoring the mighty Mirror or the propulsive percussion of centerpiece 37B.

Testament to Fautzi’s talent of engaging arrangement, never do the tracks here feel hurried nor do they become stagnant – but rather given just the right time to ripe into their full captivating potential.

No matter if one is to approach this records as already an avid lover of Lewis Fautzi’s work or comes to it simply looking for fresh takes on the classic formula, this enthralling EP certainly will satisfy everyone’s needs.
