Filbert is a talented multi-instrumentalist who is well known for piano playing and composing having discovered his talent at the tender age of 11 where he had his first musical fling performing music with the school marimba band. This passion for music evolved into a love affair with the guitar and ultimately the keyboards which he played in Frontline Kids, one of Zimbabwe’s highly acclaimed music acts which dominated the Zimbabwe music scene from 1987 to 1991.
As a founding member of Jazz Invitation, Filbert wrote and produced the formidable hit single “BP Yangu Yakwira”, sung by Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana off their “Rehearsal Room” album which was released in 2004. 
With fadZ and frenZ , he released his debut album, “Kariba Bream”  which brought together  a number of different artistes from various music backgrounds to ultimately earn him the coveted Zimbabwe Music Award of Best Jazz Album of 2006. Filbert wrote, composed, produced and arranged all the songs on this album. 
Filbert is the brains behind some of Zimbabwe’s successful experimental music projects such as Jacaranda Muse, BlaQberry Jazz, Jazz Invitation, Africherry Music to mention but a few. He has worked with a number of local as well as international artistes, having played with Jazz greats such as Dave Young, Paul Wagenberg, Paul Lunga, Dorothy Masuka, Simangaliso Tutani and Cool Crooners. He has also played with soul/funk artiste, Chris Berry and his band Panjea.
Besides having a career in composing and performing, Filbert is also a fulltime classroom music teacher who enjoys sharing his music knowledge and experience with hundreds of music pupils who have come through him, among them, some of the most promising musicians of our time such as, Trust Samende (Mokoomba lead guitarist), Tariro neGitare and Victor Kunonga to name but a few.   

Filbert Marova is the founder of the Zimbabwe Jazz Community Trust, a registered non-profit trust whose vision is to make Zimbabwe and associated communities culturally rich and entertained through the proliferation of jazz music appreciation and education. Its mission is to increase the skills levels, diffusion of knowledge and popularity of jazz music in our associated communities. The Zimbabwe Jazz Community stages a series of high quality jazz performances on a weekly basis under the banner “Back2Jazzics”, which started in the month of May 2016. Hand-picked local jazz artists perform at these themed shows and present well-polished, high quality performances in a family-friendly environment. These jazz performances are an opportunity for both well-known and lesser-known jazz artists to be highlighted. Remarkable progress has been made as a result of the competition inspired by this weekly event where musicians always try to outdo their previous performance.

Filbert holds a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) from Africa University in conjunction with Zimbabwe College of Music. He also holds a Diploma in Ethnomusicology from Indiana University in conjunction with the Zimbabwe College of Music. Filbert is affiliated to the Zimbabwe Association of Music Educators
