In Love_for Solo Piano {2012}

The piece is constructed having in mind the woodcut print by M.C Escher with the same title, where two flocks of birds and fish intersect each other. 
The sound of simantro(=σήμαντρο) is central among the rest of the wood set.

This piece, was written for Ensemble Royaal and it has been performed as part of Spring festival at Koninklijke Conservatorium, Den haag on the 8th of April 2016.
Regular division of the plane, is written in response to the series of drawings of the same title by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher. He began this collection in 1936 and the drawings are based on the principle of tessellation; irregular shapes or combinations of shapes that interlock completely to cover a surface or plane.

This piece explores the placement & movement of sound as primary tools. I composed Gravity III, taking into account the special acoustics of the Rijksmuseum Tunnel in Amsterdam, where the performance took place as part of Holland Festival on the 16th of June 2016. Something that we are always seeking to have in our lives is the idea of equilibrium, as a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced; a constant fight for intellectual, psychological and emotional serenity, something very vibrant in an artist’s life. Equilibrium is developed in three movements, Gravity, Attraction and Consolidation with long harmonic cycles and macro-rhythmical patterns in opposing atmospheres of density with sparseness and complex with simple textures. There are three sounding points that enable the music to travel within the space, surrounding the audience who is lying on a low platform having their eyes closed. With minimum light in the hall, the piece is experienced through a deep and personal mode of listening.

Paramorfosi (Greek: deformation) is using a 16-minute recording of a walk within the area of Greenwich-London. For this piece I used cross-synthesis, a technique whereby one signal confers one or more of its characteristics to another. The sounds of the walk within the recording are not obvious. Rather, attention is focused on the reverberation of both the spaces from the 16-minute walk recording and six separate spaces. Convolution, being a method of cross-synthesis, combines two audio sources emphasizing the frequencies they share and minimizing the ones that are different. In result, the piece flows and grows following the two audio sources, which in this case are the walk and the spaces recordings.

 In a system of combined sound information, our ears categorize each one differently altering the focus and concentrating on the sounds that seem to be more important. Although each and every single sound, as small and subtle as it can be, is a part of the general body of sound. A pebble on a distant shore doesn’t seem to be that important and the attention is driven to the broader picture of the collection of pebbles. 
In this composition I concentrate on a single pebble; a few fragile sounds from each instrument, bringing them in the foreground with the goal to explore their sound possibilities while they interact and develop along the piece.

Gravity II, is the second piece that I explore the idea of the sonic realization of such natural phenomenon. Gravity has at the same time stability but also power that holds everything it surrounds it. The electronic sounds follow this quality and in a way the piano and the marimba move around that. The composition is based on the overtone and undertone harmonic series of G and on a specific intervallic relationship that is realized with rhythmical patterns in the middle section. The piece is written in response to the 350 years from the discovery of gravity by Isaac Newton (1666).

Gravity II_for piano, marimba & sine waves {2016}

In this piece I explore a system of repetition and development having both the feeling of stasis and kinesis. Subtle differences and deviations from the pattern that appears 24 times, drive the attention on the details; zooming in from the big image and allowing the unique qualities of similar material to be recognised.
