The world begins to surround us in its warmth for yet another summer that is certain to be abundant of fresh music. Five lengthy years since our label’s conception, we find ourselves returning to our experimental roots again and again. This time around, we circle back with a familiar face and household name in the cyberspace we occupy.

20 years have gone by since the release of “Science of Chance,” the debut album of our longtime friend AZ-Rotator. Over the last two decades, the Madrid based producer has undergone a series of stylistic mutations that only continue to feed his curiosity for sonic studies. The foundational ‘germ’ of his origins still withholds its essence, meaningfully scribbled into his lab notes - yet his latest experiment “Dissociated Mutant Subculture EP” is a promising turn of the page. It builds on the idea of using randomness as a principle while still feeling full of intent - a clear mutation rather than ripping the journal in half. We begin the deep-dive with “Escal” and are immediately met with metallic percussion and eerie synths painting the soundscape. “Imstra” increases the energy further than the intro and flexes his masterful drum programming while welcoming a distorted, hardcore-like kick. Hidden beneath the clever progression and shuffling rhythm of “Sundmirex” is a tribute to oddball footwork; this Madrid-to-Chicago connection is only made possible by the power of our niche on the web. “Masthenod” explores the depths of frantic, high-octane breakcore with a weary tone throughout the track. “Elunnomticom” pulls the observer back into a warmer setting while still displaying an array of modular and generative sounds. The project is concluded with “Artificialle,” a track that not only stands out due to its freeform jazz-influenced nature, but also as an intriguing and potential preview of what the future may suggest for the fabled scientist.

With formative releases on some of our favorite offbeat imprints such as Ad Noiseam, Evel, and Detroit Underground, AZ-Rotator’s sonic spacecraft has returned to the Satellite Era universe. His latest offering “Dissociated Mutant Subculture EP” is a delightfully twisted contribution to our core collection of experimental electronic music, while leaving space for listener interpretation. It serves as a forward-thinking testament to the longevity and continuous improvement of his artistry.
