Blank Paper is a quiet confession, sung in a voice that is warm, weary, and searching. It drifts like smoke around the edges of thought, capturing the ache of a writer staring into silence, waiting for words that refuse to arrive. The verses move with gentle honesty, admitting doubt, fatigue, and the stranglehold of stillness, while the chorus holds onto a fragile hope—that perhaps tomorrow, inspiration will return.

Musically, it belongs to the intimate world of a Norah Jones–style ballad—soft, close, unadorned, the kind of song that feels like it’s being whispered across a kitchen table at midnight. There’s no grand flourish, only the tender persistence of someone who has carried words their whole life, now wrestling with their absence.

The cover reflects this essence: a wavering, glowing page, out of focus, not yet written on—symbolizing both the emptiness and the potential.

At its heart, Blank Paper is less about despair than about vulnerability. It is the sound of being suspended between silence and expression, knowing that even the struggle to write is its own kind of truth.

Eight years ago I was in my mom’s basement with my guitar and the most basic recording setup you can imagine.  I didn’t know anything about music production or anything at all really.  Somehow I came up with this melody that just couldn’t get out of my head.  It was probably the first moment I realized I might have written something good, so I wanted to sing it “one more time for those who are doubtful”.  While writing the lyrics (and feeling delightful), I looked at the clock, and it was 10:05 PM.  Since then I have written hundreds, probably thousands, of songs but this one stood the test of time.  Five Past Ten.

“When I was writing these songs, I pictured myself playing a house party in a dingy little beach town. Like, all these super-sweaty college kids dancing so hard. That’s the atmosphere of my music: a little town that makes a lot of noise.” DENM makes good on that promise with his debut EP, Dreamhouse, and single “Under Pressure,” which are awash with natural uppers. Hailing from Santa Barbara and having been in a handful of bands, he has spent every spare moment writing for this project.
 
Investing arduous hours into studio time, mingling pop and garage rock with BPMs and R&B, the musician admits his craft takes a ton of discipline. “I don’t smoke weed and… wait for inspiration. I’ll get in the studio and hustle—like, write 10 songs on the guitar just to get one good one,” then adding texture using synths and more guitars, producing the tracks himself into a hybrid between deep house, R&B, and pop.
