Stereo 77 follows-up the recently released remix EP, ‘Adaptations’ with a set of new compositions that further incorporate Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian percussion & rhythms, with the influence of 90s electronica sub-genres like big beat, balearic beat, afro-tech, and downtempo.

We open the EP with the warmth and ambience of ‘Birds Of Stanley’. A song built from various recordings of Stereo’s backyard (Orlando, FL), a Casio keyboard, bass guitar, and a little magic from Ableton.

‘Started In GB’ is the first of the 4 tracks to bring forth the 90s electronica influence. Driven by hard hitting congas and warm basslines, and detailed with hypnotic synths & vocal effects.
Fans of balearic beat, Afro-tech, and a slight hint of the new-rave influence will find a nice home here.

‘López Conexión’ continues down the 90s influenced vibe, in particular house infused balearic meets dubby downtempo and big beat. Built from three loops produced by a close friend and fellow Orlando DJ / Producer (asked to remain anonymous), with additional rave-like synths & basslines, dusty drums, psychedelic guitars, and plenty of dub influenced vocal hits & sounds.

‘Bonus Space’ closes the EP on a celestial and lighter vibe, heavily inspired by the major Brazilian influence that impacted the 90s and early 2000s nu-jazz, house, broken beat - and of course, the balearic sounds. Calming, ghost-like vocals float through out the upfront drums and percussion, while the bass and synth lines deliver the heat from underneath.

This EP is dedicated to the remarkable career and influence of José Padilla, and the impact and lessons his unparalleled Café Del Mar compilations provided. RIP

Filtered Deluxe Recordings proudly presents the self-titled début from cofounder of Auditors Domination and Funkin Basstards, KNOWONE.

Yannis aka KNOWONE is a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer since 2005, and has performed and recorded with Cayetano, Soulbox, Long Live, and more - including opening for Thievery Corporation at the Moni Lazariston in Thessaloniki, Greece under the Auditors Domination project.

This time around, KNOWONE takes the reins offering a deeply personal collection inspired by the “bitter moments of my life that are deeply engraved in my soul”. Every song based on people and places, interpreted through a cinematic and abstract downtempo sound, with hints of trip-hop, folktronica, and live instrumentation. This is an album that is equally appreciated in the comfort of a home, between your headphones, or on a long drive. Nevertheless, you’ll find yourself returning to these songs many times after the first listen.

KNOWONE is you, me, and everybody that composes the soundtrack of our lives.

KNOWONE (FDR021)

After more than a fifteen year hiatus, Burdy is back with his first release since collaborating with former Sofa Surfers member I-Wolf on ‘Meet The Babylonians’ (Klein Records 2004), which followed his début solo album ‘42’ (Sunshine Enterprises 2002). However, Burdy’s roots in electronic began earlier in life.
Having been in bands as a guitarist and bass player in his youth, a burgeoning interest in hip hop and later house music led to Burdy starting out in the electronic music scene in Hull (UK) as a DJ in 1993. It was during these early days that Burdy met DJ and Producer Mark Blissenden aka Bliss - and the pair cofounded Baby Mammoth.
Over a span of 7 years, Baby Mammoth produced seven studio albums (plus a compilation) on the influential UK label Pork Recordings - home of Fila Brazillia, Bullitnuts, & The Solid Doctor. The prolific body of work encompassed the label’s ethos for experimentation in electronica, downtempo, blunted techno, drum & bass and broken beats.
During this period, Burdy & Bliss collaborated with a group of highly talented jazz musicians who influenced a number of tracks on their last three albums with Pork Recordings, to create a truly “live” version of the Baby Mammoth sound by removing all the sequenced electronics and re-arranging tracks to create drum forward, jazz expressions of their studio album work.
Baby Mammoth’s eighth and final album ‘Octo Muck’, was released in 2003 on Viennese record label Ecco.Chamber.
After a tongue-in-cheek challenge from a friend to “write a track by the end of January 2020”, Burdy found the impetus to resurrect a studio set-up and get back to work. As the year progressed, so did many more tracks until a soundscape began to appear which demanded to be compiled into an album. Filtered Deluxe Recordings proudly presents ‘Satellite’.

James Hayford - Transperfect (FDR023)

Filtered Deluxe presents the Color of My Dreams EP from James Hayford - an electric and vibrant collection of Leftfield dance music dappled with shades of nostalgia, ablaze with vibrant percussion, and grounded in warm bass tones.

Produced throughout 2020, the EP represents a sound influenced by dreams where we can process the past and creatively reimagine the future.

We begin with ‘I Shall Proceed’ - saturated in melancholic vibes, a low slung Balearic groove, with chopped up soul snippets, and a female voice pleading; "it's my most favorite thing in the world … just to go outside and sit in the sun" - a feeling many of us can relate to in the winter season during a pandemic.

‘Uneven Steppes’ brings together off kilter broken beat and two-step grooves, with a prismatic blend of references towards the 90s bleep house styles of Lester Fitzpatrick or DBX, and the cluttered funk of the Talking Heads, backed by an uplifting pseudo-rave bass line, and congas.

The title track ‘Colour Of My Dreams’ conjures a vibrant and surrealistic soundscape that glistens with hazy vocal samples, a “shakes the rafters” wobbly bassline, and driven by chunky house (not house) beats.

‘Bring Your Shoes’ has the most direct reference to the 90s house bounce - while also including contrasting playful and darker contrasting elements like exuberant chattering on water percussion pushed against echoes of coughing children, with up-tempo and half-time 808 kicks.

The EP concludes with a meditative ambient piece entitled ‘Saturday 1128 Piano’ - capturing a suspended moment in time, and induced with fuzzy dissected piano, dusty distortion, and refracted glitches, that lead to the closing featuring a women’s voice extolling the virtues of someone who "knows the real me ..."

James Hayford is a sample based producer best known for his Shoes edits and remixes released under his own Shoes and Plimsoll labels - as well as for the Numero Group. On this five track collection you you’ll hear all the influences of classic hip-hop, soul, afro-beat, and disco that were a part of previous releases, while showcasing the range of dance music James has loved and collected throughout the years, such as the warehouse party sounds of 90s house and techno, experimental electronics, hardcore rave and two step, dubstep, breaks, and current future bass sounds.

SASA is the project of Orlando based DJ/Producer Stereo 77. Trading his usual style of heavy Afro-Caribbean inspired beats & breaks, for a minimal and vividly romantic sound inspired by a love for the flamenco and guitar driven fusion jazz of the 70s, and ambient compositions - mixed with personal field recordings from various cities, and a variety of live instrumentation.
Beat-wise, SASA delivers a sound influenced by the rhythms of dusty trip-hop and folktronica, interweaved with hints of 90s era bass music, soulful tropical beats, and cinematic ambience.
A combination sure to interest fans of Gotan Project, Federico Aubele, and the melancholic cut and paste aesthetics of an early Broadway Project.

The Separation EP kicks opens with the track 'Spin Around', featuring chops and loops of classical guitar, a 90s Miami bass inspired beat and bassline, with hypnotic and soothing vocals and Rhodes piano.

'Separación (SA2)' continues in similar fashion, offering blankets of hypnotic, ghostly vocals, looped & chopped classical guitar, driven by a moombahton inspired beat.

Bringing the Separation EP to a close is 'Yes They Can (Say Love)'. As the most ambient of all four tracks in the collection, 'Yes They Can (Say Love)' is an embracing - dreamlike trip, built on a foundation of manipulated & layered sounds from vinyl records, warm synths and pads, live bass hits, with additional production by longtime friend and secret weapon on Filtered Deluxe Recordings, Jorge Collazo.

As I continue to dig through my archives, I figured it would be cool to share some vintage DJ mixes. Some have been shared with only a few people, and some have never left the CD-R they live in - until today.
I do not have much information about the mixes, or know if they had a purpose. Nevertheless, the mix "tells a story" of the place, time, and perhaps the state of mind I was in when they were recorded.

I've left the mixes untouched, except for slight remastering.
