Brace yourselves for a heavy dose of hi-tech futurisms from a long time Sneaker associate. Laurie Osborne has held true to his free-spirited musical demeanour since his breakthrough dubstep years, springing across tempos and styles while holding fast to a deep-rooted raver’s instinct. His profound appreciation and knowledge of vast oceans of music injects his sound with a boundless, playful enthusiasm. What better format then for the mighty Appleblim to stretch his legs than on a tape? (The first to be spooled out on Sneaker Social Club, no less.)

As was evident with his 2018 LP Life In A Laser and his ALSO collaboration with Second Storey, Osborne speaks fluently in the techno and electro vernacular as much as UK soundsystem gear, channeling a sparkling, melodic energy which typified those genres at their inception. On Infinite Hieroglyphics, Osborne trips into expansive imagined vistas and fizzy furrows with a pervasive sub-bass footing. At times the album is cosy and intimate, as on the spangled back room dubbings of ‘Zephyr’, while elsewhere it stretches up and out with the extroverted square wave hyper-flex of ‘Riley’s Spiral’. Throughout though, the track structures remain restless and fluid, moving between phases with the non-linearity we cherish in the most creative rave music. At every turn a new synth lick vibrates into ear shot, a fresh rhythmic angle shifts the weight of the groove or an unexpected FX swerve splays out the sonic narrative.

Beyond the cassette trappings of the full album, an accompanying 12” sampler pulls together four tracks primed for soundsystem deployment. But as we’ve come to expect from Appleblim, these cuts are likely to subvert expectation and stimulate a more profound response in the dance – open-hearted and adventurous, a little bit alien and in thrall to the technology, like rave music was always meant to be.

Munich's @moltenmoods are back with their final release of 2021. Their next effort displays a similar preoccupation with contemporary dancefloor rhythms and comes from LUCKER, a relatively new face on the scene.

Typeless. Undefinable. Divergent. The adjectives used to describe musical anatomy and direction are irrevocably inexhaustible, but as sure as the sun will rise again, we will remain Typeless. We’ve spent the days regrouping, realigning and now we finally can release a record that is dear to us and has simply been a ridiculously long time coming.
The ascension of Viers is well charted, and having already played a part in that indomitable sonic crusade we once again submit to his gripping vibrations as he distils them into safe and consumable formats distinguishable to the human ear. The man is untethered and the tunes are disrespectful. We are unapologetic.
6 tracks and no punches pulled, the bruising of egos and maybe some self-assuredness is at hand. Smashed veneers everywhere no thanks to Viers. Now watch out for the title track, underpinned by devastating kicks and exacerbated by gritty chords, it is befitting of soundtrack to a subterranean aesthetic. Next comes ‘Floris’, an IDM-inclined electro journey, but with the originality and added peculiarities of a limitless entity. Track 3 is ‘Hidden Bone’ and it is almost inexplicable. Shuddering percussion and erratic mechanoid modulations combine to somehow cause an oddly beautiful chaos. ‘Running’ comes in pummelling, the weighty break and modulated keys create a prismic heat ensuring ceaseless head-nodding and heavy breathing. Now, do you hear 140? ‘Tell Me’ is the low-slung bass-weight weapon you forgot you needed. Holiday in the mind of a former you and don’t forget to buss’ it. Closing the show is ‘Feeling Like This’, with its experimental glaze and mercurial patterns somewhat blurring the imposing lines between classic AFX and the Night Slugs era.
Give your brain the ride of its life and get Viers between your ears. Typeless is back and you can’t even believe it, but you have to because these words in a row are telling you to.

Melbourne breaksmonger Ekzander returns with the new EP Overexposure that goes from manic to monstrous. He comes in the company of fantastic creatures with remixes by Fairie (Melbourne), Mincy (Sydney, Extra Spicy) and Sam Alfred (Melbourne).

HYPNOBODY

Hypnobody vibrates and draws you in with a magnetic contrast. Soaked vocals and melancholic chords bring in the rain over twitching bass and heavy breaks. A metaphor for the struggle between fear and yearnings of the heart.

OVEREXPOSURE

Title track Overexposure dominates the dancefloor with techno motifs and spoken word on the dance between indulgence and discomfort in the club. Pessimistic tones ring in panic over enormous thundering kicks in this grungy post-club anthem. 

RETRIPPED

Closing out is the wicked combination of breakbeat and footwork: Retripped. Icy PS1 synths arpeggiate over breaks a la Soichi Terada before cutting into wild twerk bass and catchy chopped vocals.

HYPNOBODY (FAIRIE’S BOUNCY MIX)

Fairie twists anxiety into madness in her Bouncy Mix of Hypnobody, featuring gorgeous otherworldly vocals scattered over warped drums for a multidimensional feel.

OVEREXPOSURE (MINCY REMIX)

Mincy lets darkness into Overexposure and produces an unforgiving hard club take on the original - feel the dread take over and morph you into acid goo.

RETRIPPED (SAM ALFRED REMIX)

Sam Alfred delivers a groovy speed garage remix of closing track Retripped. With chirps in an alien language and slide synths that take you straight to Mars, you'll feel right at home in the club when you're locked in to this.

Relentless raver and emerging artist from the Rinse France roster of captivating talent, @roniraver launches her imprint Nehza Records with a five-track EP titled ‘Slowing’ by Bordeaux-based @neida0neida 

‘Slowing’ is a cross-pollination of breaks, acid, jungle and bass which nods to the sound of the underground UK rave scene circa 1990. An era that RONI closely aligns with in terms of sound, art and the sense of liberation synonymous with 90s club culture, Neida nails this aesthetic throughout the EP.
