Always nice to expand the kraftek family of artists as we welcome German producer Shadym to the fold. 2 heavy tracks with instant floor appeal for those pockets around the world that will manage to be the first to welcome techno fans back with public events. Usually working within the hard techno genre, Shadym's reduced tempo here manages to maintain all the power of his harder productions within a more cosmic framework. Relentless techno talent BEC has shot to the top in lightning speed with her high energy techno sets and productions. The UK-born, Berlin-based artist’s latest 4-track EP ‘Sixth Dimension’ on Filth on Acid hits all the right spots for techno fans. First up on the record is ‘Sixth Dimension’, a driving techno pumper with a scattered synth line and rave stabs that build euphotic anticipation and energy. Next in line is ‘Set My Body Free’, with bright and uplifting keys around a darker techno soundscape keeping the pace up. ‘Utopian’ follows on with heaving percussions and intergalactic synth lines. Sample heavy, jagged and cutty, the track takes a journey across multiple directions, creating a flurry of movement within. Closing out the EP is ‘Dialogue’: A quickfire snare drum sets a rushed energy for the track, while a booming kick and brooding baselines are set alight by industrial sounds. A commanding female vocal sample is used that commands the listener's attention. Hailing from Venice but currently in Berlin, Italian DJ/Producer Nico Cabeza boasts an impressive catalogue of releases on Riot Recordings, Unrilis, Respekt Recordings and many more. Nico is set to expand his archive of musical works in January as he joins Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint for his debut release on the label. Spread across three individually unique tracks, Cabeza’s ‘Laguna’ EP sees in the new year with an immersive influx of high-quality techno production and artistic expression.‘Laguna’ plunges the listener into a deepened array of groove-bringing tonal percussion, intricate hat sequences and punchy kicks. Progressively expanding from the track’s core, you’ll find an encapsulating combination of synth and bass arps fuse into the backdrop of resonant pads, sweeping FX and atmospheric breaks to carve out an energetic melodic techno roller with subtle, ethereal nuances throughout.‘Repressed Memories’ shows a firmer edge to Cabeza’s work. Booming kickdrums and hissing hat grooves lead alongside reverberated acid stabs. Another prominent synth arp makes the centrepiece, surrounded by a vignette of pounding beats, coarse, bleeding bass notes and corrosive chords, all brought together by a head-turning soulful vocal hook.
