Klim is the post-punk/new wave project of Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Fin Ramage. It draws influence from the late 70’s and early 80’s greats such as Kraftwerk, Talking Heads, Devo and Joy Division. On their debut EP ‘More Monotonous’ Fin’s vocals (inspired by Lou Reed, Nick Cave and other baritones) are set atop instrumentals of catchy bass riffs, 80’s analogue inspired synths, sparsely placed guitar riffs and upbeat punk drums performed by long time collaborator Dermot Seller (Hollywood Real Thoughts, Auto Lapse). When combined these elements create a soundscape that ranges from somewhat abrasive and dissonant to almost pop-like in its playfulness and catchiness. It is at times both minimal and also more technical with hints of influences from genres not so associated with post-punk such as math rock and prog.
