Fast rising artist Campion is next on on FINA with his New Beginnings EP. The UK artist brings his A-game to four fresh tracks of fresh quirky leftfield house. 

Luke Campion is London based and one half of Mr Sunshine as well as being the co-owner of Curve Records. Well schooled in the rich history of the UK's ever evolving underground scene, he brings elements of bass, dub and garage to his house grooves and is also known for dropping his own cheeky edits of hip hop classics. He's released on a number of labels over the years but in 2021 is all set to make his biggest moves yet. 

Opener 'All Good' brings a chunky swagger with skewed synth stabs and organic drums and hits overlaid by a freaky vocal sample. It's loose body music of the highest order. Things get more stripped back on the tough drums and steel plated sounds of 'Souwl'. The percolating grooves are fleshed out with dub chords and sci-fi motifs hint at the future. As the title suggests, 'Mello D' gets more warm, with balmy pads and more excellently swung drums bringing the house funk. Closer 'Zazen' is a gorgeously rough edged but tender house roller with romantic trumpet lead, withering pads and a soulful female vocal drifting by up top. 

These are four hugely characterful house tracks that cover a range of different moods and atmospheres.

Pash sets pace for the record with a charging 909 pattern, choppy breaks and weighty sub. The ravey but floaty chords that emerge from the breakdown propel things forward, spilling over the beat. You can almost feel the heat from a summer day party on your face.Stave Hill is a chugging rhodes groove where flashes of machine funk, raw disco energy and a garage vocal sample dance around each other. The River employs the keyboard skills of Narotam Horn shredding over a lush latin, bruk inspired rhythm. Sleet closes the record with some rolling house pieced together from tape samples, acid baselines and a growling Vermona DDR.

After a couple of years in the wilderness, FINA Records makes a welcome return with a fresh new five-track EP from acclaimed Japanese veteran Takuya Matsumoto. Adept at all forms of house from deep to tech to acid and – as well as landing on FINA Records back in 2015 - he has popped up on the likes of Media Fury and Clone, most recently dropping his devastatingly good tribute to the hey days, the 85-88 EP on Clone’s Jack For Daze Holland in October.

On the ‘Tape Is Rewound EP’, Matsumoto shows his full range demonstrating some low-slung rawness, elegant hi-tech soul, and feel-good sample heavy deepness on the A-side. On the flip he rolls out some dubby acid and a fat-bottomed, party-starting looper. It’s not often you get so much genuine variety and so many irresistible grooves all inside one package!

The elusive Takuya Matsumoto has been floating beneath the surface of the underground scene for a decade, high on the list of double AA listers like Floating Points and Move D since he dropped a few slammers on Meda Fury.  Returning for his second outing on the uber-cool Fina Records, with his ‘Tape Is Rewound EP’. This collection is an unrelated group of tracks which normally one would question them sitting on the same slab of vinyl, but here it just works.  Deep house grooves are merged with tech- tinged beats, punctuated with some filthy dirty acid lines. Killer EP from the crew.

The EPs opener, ‘The Skin Horse’ is surely one for the after afters – a dark and off kilter growler of a track whose prevailing bassline and waltz time beat provide a brooding backdrop and relentless rolling nod to its intricate fusion of dissident chords, dusty synths and jazz stabs.

On the flip side, an unpredictable ‘Cupboard Love’ starts muted and deep but soon surprises, opening out into a warm and progressive feel-good groove. Mixing things up again, Slow Learner impulsively cuts up the flow 4 minutes in with a funk-filled refrain, leaving the track dancing in and around dirtier disco territories.

For our first release of 2017 and number twenty-three in the FINA catalogue, we are super happy to welcome Finnish producer Saine to the family.  Saine has been on our hit list for a number of years and we are delighted to finally be releasing his aptly named ‘Mint EP’
 
The Mint EP includes three cuts brimming with hip-hop fused, organic house sound that have always grabbed our attention in the past on labels such as Sleazy Beats, Black Ops, Voyage, Odd Socks and Quartet Series.  With the Mint EP Lauri continues in the  ‘Saine vein’(see what we did there) the tracks ooze obscure sample wizardry, thumping straight-to-the-bone beats & wavering analogue synth textures which do not disappoint.

Our next release comes from Mathew Ferness, an exciting rising star for just his second ever EP, It features three tracks that showcase his musical house style with a remix from Helsinki’s Saine. 

Ferness hails from a small town near Montreal in Quebec, where he was an outcast obsessed with music no no shops, parties or scenes to get involved with. He started DJing in his teens but inspired by J Dilla began producing on a sampler and drum machine. An exploration of analogue sounds, DAWS and most recently electronic music have all lead him to the rich sound he has now. His last EP on Beat changers was championed by Rhythm Section International and Radio 1 tastemaker Bradley Zero and this latest EP is likely to prove just as popular. 

Pad laced opener ‘Escapade’ is a summery deep house jam with breezy acoustic guitar and warm, punchy drums of the sort to get any floor cutting loose. ‘Solitude’ is more paired back, with thoughtful piano keys laid over deep rolling drums. There is a musical romance and beauty to the synths that elevate this one above purely functional fodder, and then ‘At First Sight’ awakens your senses once more with broad synth smears and perfectly rough-edged drums all filling your heart with pure deep house soul.

Saine is a producer with a range that goes from hazy hip hop to dusty house on labels like Odd Socks, Andy Hart’s Voyage and this one before now.  After his 2017 EP Mint, he returns with a remix that is bubbly and laden with colourful melodies and open-air house grooves. 

This is EP full of rich house music that is for mind, body and soul.

With their next EP, FINA Records proudly introduces Goddard, a refined alias from the artist formerly known as Loz Goddard. The Manchester talent serves up four dreamy and live-in house tracks on We Should Chill On The Windowsill More that exude plenty of very real emotions. 

After EPs on the likes of Church, Dirt Crew and Quintessentials, Goddard has become synonymous with adventurous club sounds that take their cues from the same jazz, downtempo and ambient sounds he pushes on his much-loved Reform Radio show Downtown Groove Sessions. He has picked up props from the likes of RA and gone on to DJ internationally. 

Far From Home opens up with scuffed up kicks and live sounding drums as well as dreamy sax and aching vocal samples that tug at the heart. Where You Gone? is more driving, with swirling pads and wooden drum kicks making for a perfectly intimate basement house vibe. It Rains Out There sinks you into a pillowy ambiance, with splashes of cymbal and gently tumbling jazz drums run through with deft synth lines and sombre piano chords. It's a mature piece that is followed by the shuffling melodic house lushness of Violets. 

This is an accomplished offering of richly detailed house tracks from an ever more essential artist.

On his newest EP, “We Should Chill on the Windowsill More,” Manchester-based producer Goddard refines his palette of Ambient, Downtempo, and Electro-Jazz, genres which he regularly showcases on his monthly Reform Radio Show, Downtown Groove Sessions. The result is an EP that, in its restless experimentation and attention to detail, recalls such pioneers of these sub-genres as Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Squarepusher.

	After opening A-side track, “Far from Home”, starts things off on a stripped-back, understated note, “Where You Gone” comes in on a harder, more driving tempo. The opening kick drums are something out of a hardcore Drum’n’Bass tune, but soon, swelling pads and orchestral keys arrive to relieve the heaviness. The track masterfully toes the line between outright propulsive House and lush, textured Ambient. As it reaches halfway, the chopped vocal sample, clattering hi-hats, and gorgeous ambient flourishes, suddenly morph into a synth-heavy jam-out, with multiple, subtle drops. As the track grows looser and more sparse towards the conclusion until all that is left is the lead piano melody, it feels as if Goddard wants us to look back and to take in this panorama of Downtempo Ambient-House majesty which we have just journeyed through. 

	Releasing on London-based label, FINA Records, this is Goddard’s calling card as a meticulous craftsman of dreamy, laid-back, emotionally-resonant experimental House. Showcasing himself as an artist who is building upon his idols to create his own signature style, here, he provides his listeners a warm, adventurous environment to get lost in.

With their next EP, FINA Records proudly introduces Goddard, a refined alias from the artist formerly known as Loz Goddard. The Manchester talent serves up four dreamy and live-in house tracks on We Should Chill On The Windowsill More that exude plenty of very real emotions.

After EPs on the likes of Church, Dirt Crew and Quintessentials, Goddard has become synonymous with adventurous club sounds that take their cues from the same jazz, downtempo and ambient sounds he pushes on his much-loved Reform Radio show Downtown Groove Sessions. He has picked up props from the likes of RA and gone on to DJ internationally.

The co-founder of Ritual Poison Records and Batrachian Records has been fuelling sweaty dance floors with his productions since 2017. They are always physical and emotional affairs that have come on the likes of Furthur Electronix, Tone Dropout, Kouncil Cuts, Partout and Ecstasy Garage Disco, and now he comes through with another treasure trove of top tunes.

Endless Rhythm has a quick house beat with muted acid lines, jazzy chords and a nagging vocal sample that all adds up to an impassioned and soulful groove. Lily Pad is more unfixed with a prickly 303 darting about the mix next to balmy pads and a prickly percussive line that demands you move. It's Changing has a deep but driving bassline and another heartfelt vocal sample that adds a real sense of melancholy to the futuristic and soulful house beats. Night Visions close out with some dusty old breakbeats that keep you on your toes and lost in a cinematic world of sci-fi pads.
