After the warm and beautiful indie leaning EP from Dead Heat, Life and Death steps back up to the plate with two fresh dancefloor killers found in Mind Against's new Avalon EP. 

With sounds that seem plucked from an early 80s children's filmstrip gone very wrong (or perhaps very very right) Mind Against weave a dark, inspired charge into the black of night with both sides of this stunning EP.

On the A side is Several Times, a techno gem that comes out of the gate at breakneck pace with solid drums, bass and a rhythmic synth pulse that evolves slowly and strongly until finally augmented by a main analog synth line that reaches over from the other side and grabs you directly by the ears. It's an evocative melody that keeps the listener on edge with tones that are fully present yet almost barely hold together, teetering just on the edge of falling apart but never quite falling away from just where they need to be. A techno themed soundtrack to a disturbing Groundhog Day of the faraway future.

Over on the B side is the EP's namesake with a simmering sound that makes reference to the ancient island home of legendary sorceress Morgan Le Fey, sister of the famous King Arthur and whose mystic ways were to blame for mirages seen by sailors long out at sea. Here again an analog synth casts its spell on the listener, framed by delayed chords and a foreboding low end growl that slowly tell the tale of Avalon. Managing the difficult task of painting a picture without form, Mind Against weave an emotional drama without words and yet their vocabulary of sound seems keenly up to the task. No easy feat but one this duo have proven again and again that they are more than able to accomplish.

Celebrating a momentous decade of operation, Belgium's Token Records has rallied together some of its artists across the years that have helped curate the label's powerful sound for a nine-track compilation aptly titled 'Momentum (10 Years of Token)'.
The leading track comes from former ​Mixmag​ cover star and Berlin stalwart Rødhåd in collaboration with London-based Sigha. 'Bloom' is a statement all of its own, slow to blossom before rumbling into a booming demonstration of the command both producers have over their dance floors.

London producer Dino Lenny returns with a new dark dancefloor drop, ready to cause a stir after a string of on-point release over the last year on the likes of Innervisions, Diynamic, Ellum and Sapiens.   Title track 'Techno Is Dead' lands on his own Fine Human imprint and takes a play from people sentencing the end of a style, but the truth is the floors are having it like no tomorrow. Sonic wise, it’s a 8 minute slice of driving, shadowy, electronic sound, with rumbling 4/4 beats and warehouse ready builds working in tandem for a truly standout piece of finely balanced sound, that will no doubt light up the clubs.  Following up is ' Go Down To Mexico', with an array of off kilter stabs and trippy vocal elements solidifying Dino's dexterous production style. Expect to hear these across the clubs in the coming months.

Vanoni is a young DJ/producer from Patagonia, Argentina, now based in Buenos Aires. Influenced by the most hypnotic and abstract sounds of Deep Techno, he started to develop his producer side in 2018, after years of DJ in his home town scene.
Achieving a characterized base by long and reverberating pads, enveloping textures, minimal percussion and psychedelic synths, he makes clear his view of the genre.

‘Haiken’ is his debut release, it contains 3 tracks of great depth and solid groove.

The introduction of this EP begins with Haiken, a track with constantly moving acid synths, long pads and well-spaced percussions. Jauke has a slow but very detailed progression that comes to the stridency with a blunt synth which is affected by the use of LFO, accompanied by synthetic percussions with delays. The minimalism is notoriously well used in the elements with slow progressions that catch the listener. Lawal is the gold brooch, a very mental off- beat track where all the elements join together and are part of the hypnosis.

One of our proudest accomplishments of 2019 was releasing the very first 170bpm tune from Donato Dozzy. Predominantly known as a Techno artist / DJ, Donato’s musical career is increasingly diverse. From his collaborative work with Neel as Voices From The Lake to his experimental ambient solo works, and his recent LP for Raster alongside Eva Geist stretching into synth pop, the maestro effortlessly reshapes any chosen sound with his distinctive touch.

Many were surprised by Donato turning to 170bpm production for his remix of Homemade Weapons ‘Svalsat’ but those who have researched or experienced much of Donato’s history will likely have imagined it in advance. As a 12 year resident at Rome’s Brancaleone - the storied Italian squat / cultural centre / underground club, Donato began introducing DnB into his sets in the mid 2000’s and more recently his sets posted online for Resident Advisor and Terraforma showed the maestro adeptly working DnB into his impressively tempo hopping journeys.

Naturally we hoped there would be more 170 productions coming after the remix and after a short time, the tracks for The Tao began appearing as the hardware hypnotist had refined his approach to the new tempo.

Things move fast these days, everything needs to be done faster easier and in the most convenient way. They say that the future can't wait and technology doesn't like to look back. But somehow in this process we feel that we have lost a key factor: we call it the Human factor. 
At FHR we think that not everything needs to fit in a pigeonhole, we still like a vocal on a groove and a musician playing on a drum loop. I know it's strange but sometimes we also like Djs that mix slightly out tempo but then put it back in time.
All this gives us the feeling that there is human being behind an emotion. We would rather have a imperfect unique experience rather than a precise emotionless never-ending loop.
And that's why we want our music to sound like it's made by an genuine Human intuition. And that's why we will always try to make and present to you the best possible Fine Human Records.
