"On the new Mora EP (his first for the Fine Grains Records label), Cain has constructed a series of tracks that touch on a wide range of influences without belonging to any specific movement or style. One of the EP’s highlights, 'Rhaspan', begins with a percussion figure constructed from hand percussion and metallic shakers, giving way to an organ that would sound at home on a UGK track. And the whole thing is structured as if for a rave, leaving plenty of space to build anticipation, and culminating in a rewarding climax....."

Italian producer My Dry Wet Mess, aka Giovanni Civitenga, is a name that has resonated in the world of left field/beats since it's exciting fledgling years. Though his father is the bass player for Ennio Morricone’s orchestra and a studio guitarist on numerous Italian records, from a young age Gio was drawn towards hip hop. Having released albums on Daedleus' Magical Properties and Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder, Fine Grains present his debut vinyl release - 'Laptop Lapdance'. The EP comes equipped with remixes by Hyperdub' Ikonika, Dam Mantle and Auntie Flo.

For the Italian producer My Dry Wet Mess, music runs in his blood. With an impressive resume that begins with his father's career in the music world, it's no wonder that he's become an artist with releases under Daedelus's Magical Properties and Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder. 

This time around, he's releasing his Laptop Lapdance EP via Fine Grains on July 7th, and to prepare for the exciting new EP, we've been given the chance to premiere one of his tracks, "Eyelids' Secrets." 

The song is similarly rooted in a bed of hip hop, although to the same extent the beat scene and the likes of FlyLo are influenced by it; MDWM definitely takes liberties, playing with the synth over a steady beat to create something obscure and strange and fantastic, all while displaying a startling simplicity.

'Morrigan' is the first single from Scottish producer CAIN's debut album "Lineage" (out on the 19th June). The album includes the groundbreaking Brighde Chaimbeul on Scottish small pipes, James Mackenzie on flute and vocals by Katie Mackenzie. Continuing the percussive-driven and emotive themes from his previous EPs, CAIN's album reaches beyond the boundaries of experimental electronic music and Celtic music from the Scottish Highlands. "Lineage" is the result of a life-long goal to combine his passion and experience in these respective worlds.

Some words from CAIN about the making of the track:

"For this track I wanted to ensure that you could first hear Katie Mackenzie’s beautiful vocals on their own, with only some improvised chords from an organ over this. It’s got a gentle, lullaby feel which sets a tone that makes it more surprising when the drums suddenly come in. For some reason I’ve found that reggaeton-like rhythms work really well with Gaelic songs. That was unexpected!"

'The Highlands' is the 2nd single from Scottish producer CAIN's debut album "Lineage" (out 19th June). The track includes Brighde Chaimbeul on Scottish small pipes and James Mackenzie on flute.

"I worked with James Mackenzie on the flute melody in this track, which forms the base of the tune. He is such an expressive player and really captures the way that people approach music in the Western Isles of Scotland. I really wanted to include bagpipes, but in a totally different way from how they typically sound. I cut out harmonics from recordings of Brighde Chaimbeul’s Highland small pipes and forged them into all the chords you hear in the tune – which are really like rave stab sounds. After a lot of sound design work, it was really exciting when it all came together." - CAIN

Following appearances on Steven Julien's label Apron Records and a release on London label Palm City, Fine Grains Records line up ‘Junction Tape‘ from Moroka, a first-class interstellar voyage gliding through uncanny constellations, filled with modern funk synthesizers, lo-fi house melodies and polyrhythms. Our pick from the album is 'Sovereign‘ – a sizzling cauldron brewed in South London. As Moroka dispenses with gravity, his dubbed-out symphony incorporates fireball kick drums, space-echoed snares and meditative synth oscillations, luring listeners into a pacific state of consciousness. Recommended if you're into the music of Space Ghost and Galcher Lustwerk.

Nordic ice meets Spanish fire in the latest offering from Fine Grains Records collaboration series. 'Blåis' is a split EP featuring Norwegian skweee boss Beatbully and Barcelona-based Fitzroy North. The release is complete with distinct remixes by young Scottish grime producer Inkke, synthetic funk master Joe Howe (fka Ben Butler & Mousepad) and one of the finest beats producers this side of the Atlantic, Mwëslee. The artwork comes from Norwegian graphic artist Halvor Bodin. 'Blåis', one of over 100 Nordic words for snow and ice, occurs when snow falls on a glacier, is compressed, and becomes part of the glacier. Over the course of 8 tracks, Beatbully & Fitzroy North squeeze the maximum from their respective MPC & synth setups to deliver an unpretentious mix of synthetic funk with a punch.

Russian OL and Scottish ¥OIN are two young producers with something to say. On the ascent as emergent artists and off the back of excited feedback from their respective solo releases on Error Broadcast & Tuff Wax, OL & ¥OIN are in collaboration mode for the 'Sink' EP on Fine Grains. 

Their first collaborative work, 'Real Thang', featured in Fine Grains Vol. 1 and received support and plays on BBC R1 and NTS. The Slick Shoota remix of the EP title track has received support & airplay from Scratcha DVA on Hyperdub's Rinse FM show and 'Nails' was premiered on B.Traits BBC Radio 1 show. The EP includes further remixes by Spanish grime specialist Noaipre and the crown prince of modern ballroom MikeQ, and Divoli S'vere.
