Who killed JackWasFaster?

Was it the post‑pandemic skyrocketing BPMs and the slow death of soul in club music? The exhausting 90s revival — dredging up even its least glorious moments? Maybe it was the nightlife crowd: more “intense,” with Jäger‑tainted breath, white-powdered noses, and the same recycled small‑talk clichés. Or the current musical climate, obsessed with constant novelty over meaningful transformation. Perhaps it was the mainstreaming of tacky spectacle — DJs dressed as mermaids, horses, or bullfighters — a bargain‑basement sublimation of kitsch.

Or maybe it was suicide. A slow collapse brought on by the inability to find new ways to express oneself in this environment; the blur between conviction and inertia; the endless déjà‑vu; the weariness; the age. Like in Murder on the Orient Express, maybe everyone took a stab.

This posthumous EP gathers the final tracks JackWasFaster worked on, a re‑imagined take on his debut cut Bitter Pill, and a blistering remix from Anatolian Weapons. Maybe they’ll help crack the case. Or maybe one day JackWasFaster will rise from the dead.

After some tasty EP's for Golden Soul and Midnight Riot Ian Stamford's Slync project comes to Hot Digits with 3 fine nu-disco chuggers featuring some nods to 80's boogie, warm poolside vibes and wide eyed balearic slo-mo. Also as a bonus there are two mixes of the title track from Alpaca edits honcho Pete Le Freq who houses up the original and rising star Cuz Electric who turns the track on its head for some fierce peak time electronic disco wobbliness!

HOTDIGIT051 Slync - Boogie Bells (Preview)

Following early outings on Electric Friends and Spa In Disco, fast-rising producer JMMSTR (no relation to Freerange boss Jimpster) makes a first appearance on Slightly Transformed. There are two tracks to set the pulse racing. Opener "New York" is a confirmed mid-tempo treat: a woozy, 112 BPM shuffler that layers flash-fried guitars and piano-laden snippets from a swirling, string-laden disco classic atop thickset bass and bongo-heavy nu-disco beats. Virtual B-side "You Took" employs bouncier and crispier beats, with the producer utilizing filter effects to tease in elements of a female-fronted disco-funk number. The vocal breakdown is life affirming, but it's the trippy treatment of the sample source's hard-wired guitars that catches the ear.
