This episode comes with a guest mix from my dear friend Simone De Kunovich. Simone is a bit of a legend in the city of Milan, or at least it felt like that every time I was in town. We connected via my label partner Mic when they both lived in Berlin some years back which resulted in him joining the Superconscious Records family with a truly wild EP ! Since this beautiful relationship formed we’ve always stayed connected and I found him to be one of the main voices that helped me keep sane since the damn virus lured its ugly head. When things are weird, confusing and somewhat overwhelming, I would find myself in long discussions with Simone via whatsapp voice memo’s that would help me gain some clarity whilst simultaneously challenging me and also making me laugh. Besides being a zenith of wisdom, Simone is a killer fun deejay whom I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside with a bunch of times. He’s served up to HP HQ an italian dream house special, lots of rarities, have fun with shazaming this one!

This month’s show comes with a guest mix from a dear friend from wayyyyy back… Nina Ratsaphong ! (aka Extra Silky). We became friends when we were in our early 20’s and partying at the infamous Mercat Basement (RIP) in Melbourne and have remained homies to this day! A couple of years ago Nina showed me this mix she made and it blew me away because it was full of wild EBM, industrial new beat stuff that I loved and I had no idea Nina was even into that vibe. Nina isn’t a DJ by the way, she’s infamous for making everyone’s hair look great in Sydney at her iconic Extra Silky salon. I think it’s more fun for me personally in this current climate to bring people onto the show who aren’t “djs” because we’re not in short supply of those (lol) so i’m planning on doing it more. Also Nina somehow managed to make a mix that suits the Hardcore Positive name more than anyone else so far, what a legend!

This month is the 25th monthly anniversary of hardcore positive’s entry into the online radio thunderdome. It’s been a wild ride so far and mostly contributed from far off lands but that looks to be finally changing. To celebrate 25 laps around the proverbial internet sun, I have brought along Brisbane local mischief maker and supreme dance music collector Huge Jackman (known to his mum as Jack Brodie). While I was up in the region last week having a holiday, we decided at the last minute to run a naughty little park party together, sadly we only managed to make it to about 5 hours in before the law stepped in and cut short everyone’s good graces. The 2 hours in this episode capture the timezone where people were sitting on rugs, catching up with friends and having their BYO varieties before slowly starting to make their way into dancing territory. To anyone who has been following HP since the start, thank you from the bottom of my heart ! Enjoy the ride x

This months HP welcomes Melbourne's Timepoor. Timepoor (or Luke as he is known to his mother) is a dear friend and musical inspiration of many years. We've been talking, making & living music in each others orbits for a long time, most recently working on Veranda Culture together while in the Melbourne lockdown of 2020/2021. We had a studio together above a pub, where we escaped the weirdness of the outside world and recorded constantly for months on end, it was a pretty fun & crazy situation. 

Luke's new solo project Timepoor feels like a consolidation of ideas & expressions that were existing within him for a long time that have now found a comfortable home to settle in. I got him in for an interview to talk about it all plus he blessed us all with a recent live recording at the Tramway Hotel in Melbourne's inner north.

** note ** due to having issues locking down a time to do a proper phone interview due to timezones. we did a bunch of back -n-forth voice memo's and stitched them together, so my apologies if the vibe isn't fluid and it sounds kind of odd.

The next step in his musical journey sees the producer shift-direction with the tranquil and beautiful Veranda Culture, balancing New Age ambience, percussive pulse rides and echoing synths for an album that unfurls with a calming patience and soothing confidence throughout.

Recorded over a period of three years between Melbourne and London, FIO began making Veranda Culture after discovering the debut album of Greek-born, Sausalito-based composer Iasos – the New Age masterpiece ‘Inter-Dimensional Music’ LP — in Melbourne’s Liquorice Pie record store. James finished writing the album in London during a somewhat chaotic time in his life, when he was feeling the pressure-cooker environment of the city.

It’s not all terrible however, in fact this month I managed to swoop up a great guest and truly great friend to give his 2 cents. Myles Mac, the figure behind Melbourne Deepcast… An internet mix series that’s been in operation since 2009 and has had pretty much anyone thats the” who’s who” of underground dance music walk through it’s proverbial doors. Always consistent and never compromising, the mix series is very much loved all over the world, just like Myles himself. Was very happy to have the big loveable guy on the show, a somewhat full circle affair since i contributed my mix for MDC about 10 years ago
