Black Horse and the Cherry Tree

Composed in 2012. This is my AS music composition. The brief was to write a piece of music to create the idea of a 'Passing Storm'. I use a palindromic structure - so if this piece were to be played backwards it would sound exactly the same as it does forwards. You can see that the waveform looks slightly symmetrical, however it is not completely palindromic because I had to add a small section in the second half to make a transition between sections smoother.
This is a quartet (Violin, Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon). The violin represents the ship sailing into and out of the storm; the flute represents the lightning in the middle section; and the bassoon represents the thunder in the middle section.
