From the centre of England, Birminham, UK's Cyber Monday hits the heady highs of his retro 80s inspired SynthWave journey with the full-length album Day Wave.

Featuring the singles Crazy and Video Store, among others, Day Wave is a triumph of synthesizer magic. The retro-but-current stylings of SynthWave are in full force across all 11 tracks presented here.

Featuring both instrumental tracks and guest vocals, Day Wave is an album that celebrates the synth in all of it's 1980s glory.

As modern life spirals further into chaos and confusion, David Vassalotti’s newest album Broken Rope, a follow-up to his revered out-of-print 2011 LP Book of Ghosts, presents itself as a soundtrack for the tumult
.
Vassalotti, a Florida-based songwriter and performer for critically acclaimed 4AD signees Merchandise (amongst numerous other projects), has used this record as an opportunity to delve further into his own diverse world of personal interests. Broken Rope is a passion project, with Vassalotti handling all of the writing, performing, recording, production, and art design.

From lo-fi guitar pop sounds (a la Flying Nun staples like The Clean and The Verlaines), to elements harsh industrial noise and musique concrete, Vassalotti weaves together a wide array of musical influences with a steady hand. Similarly, the album’s lyrics draw from literary references as far- reaching as Portuguese history, Russian folklore, and Spanish poetry.

Ambitious as it may be to cover so much ground, there is a rational flow and unity that ties the record together. In the chaotic globalism of the 21st century Broken Rope may not be the compass that helps us find our orientation, but it can still serve as a mirror to help shape our concept of where we fit into the fray. This is an adventurous album for uncertain times.

Celebrating its 4th anniversary Mexican label Duro releases the second installment of their various artist series called 'Muy Duro' and kickstarts 2020 with five label befriended artists, namely Mordisco, Jepe, Darlyn Vlys, Fausto and Carisma, that synonominously represent Duro's international philosophy when it comes to music and giving it a home. With 116bpm Spanish duo Mordisco delivers a dark disco-ish wave, 'Sacromonte', slowing the generel pace of the V/A a bit down but still capturing the right amount of Latin vibe or their Latin roots with a lead-synth that's causing 'Sacromonte' to become one of these groovey, disco creepers one enjoys hearing in a sweaty club or under the open sky.

'Muy Duro Vol. 2' will be released on Duro on January 24th, 2020.

Happier Happyless is a sour and sweet song, tackling subjects of pining, happiness and revenge. Having a fittingly slower pace than former Spunsugar singles, this song is also an homage to the shunned 2001 slasher movie Valentine, released a little too late in the post-Scream era. Written with the aim to have “a memorable hook, a thumping synth bass line and a gazey chorus” this is a good introduction to the bands debut album, because of the constant switching of emotional tonality.
