Born and raised in The Netherlands, producer Beatsofreen has gained major attention by releasing his first well-received beattape “Future Memories” back in 2011 at the age of 17. 
After a successful collaboration (Global Soul EP) with Medaforacle (USA), he was signed to the Darker Than Wax family, celebrating his new EP “Coloured Dreams” (2013), a little tribute to the late & great J Dilla. With his alterego Stan Forebee , Beatsofreen also creates more jazz-orientated beats, and most recently landed himself a feature on Okayplayer for his remix of Flying Lotus' 'Siren song'.

The process that led to ‘Dimensions EP’ engaged different sides of him as a well-rounded artist – growing as his music developed from straight Dilla-minded beats to more electronic songs.

He approached this first as a musician, and then a producer – working with less samples and recording live acoustic instruments – something which has always been part of work for film and radio but was never included in personal production own music, until this project.

While creating this EP had the intention of an electronic influence, it is balanced off by an earthy jazz element – he began to delve more into the acoustic-folk sound and songwriting.

The Dimensions EP is about bringing these different elements together. It stands for seeing things from new perspectives, for experiencing life's diversity. Everything is possible: it's all around you; inside, on the outside. You just have to find the dimensions, take the walls down, and bloom.

The last couple of years have been huge for Pomo, going from a relatively obscure Canadian producer to releasing his debut EP on HW&W, remixing for the likes of Janet Jackson and Mark Ronson, producing “Am I Wrong?” on Anderson Paak’s debt album and touring the globe with Disclosure as their opening act. 

Bastard Jazz has commissioned Pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their "Tempo Dreams" compilation series, following on the heels of the acclaimed Soul Clap compiled Vol. 3. As with other Tempo Dreams records, Pomo has curated a slick and well polished album full of exclusive tracks from friends and collaborators such as Lindsay Lowend, Aloka, Exmag, Syre, Daniel Crawford, FVLCRVM and more.  Touching on the shimmering nudisco sound, plodding deep electronic vibes, funky instrumental hip-hop, and even a hint of drum’n’bass, Tempo Dreams Vol. 4 takes it’s rightful place in the series as one of the most forward thinking compilations showcasing emerging young talent.

Lowtism - Take Me Back

Berlin-based duo https://soundcloud.com/lowtism’s friendship started early enough that they were able to experience a series of firsts together. First hangovers, first girlfriends, and the genesis of their musical partnership - their first computer with a cracked copy of Fruity Loops. Starting out with the goal of mimicking the work of their favourite artists on Soundcloud, what they consider a homogenization of musical styles left a bad taste in their mouth. This prompted them to seek inspiration from genres such as 2-step, UK garage, classic rock, blues, jazz, and Japanese funk.

'Take Me Back' is an ode to a life-changing trip to Japan taken by Jaye, one half of Lowtism. Jet engines and connecting flight announcements during the track’s build up set a smooth tone for what is ultimately a funky and celebratory homage to a host of sensations and experiences that only travel can offer. Synth riffs layered over 80s J-pop horns and peppered with live guitar licks take the senses along for the ride.

Sam O.B. makes his Bastard Jazz debut with two dynamic and immersive songs illustrating themes of time and isolation. Dancefloor ready as singles, ‘This Saturday’ and ‘Opaque Pace’ are crafted for both your headphones and the club.

‘This Saturday’ conjures an after-hours mood with lyrics exploring feelings associated with social nightlife and its dualities of excitement/anxiety and confidence/self-doubt. Propelled by a hypnotic thump, the song is seasoned with swirling synths and scattered hand-claps and additional vocal harmonies by Allison Ponthier. ‘This Saturday’ ultimately invites you both lyrically and rhythmically to step out of your comfort zone and enter a space of real living: “Free those bones.”

‘Opaque Pace’ shifts from studying the kinetic movement of bodies to focus on the soluble movements of time. The track evolves patiently from fluttering woodblocks and undulating congas to a pulsing pad of choir harmonies. Sam’s ghostly vocals enter to hint at the shape-shifting qualities of time. Everything’s rolling nicely when a thunderous explosion of drums and heavy bass blast a hole through the hourglass. Seconds slip away like ever finer granules of sand passing under foot. Just as guitar rhythms congeal a melody, ‘Opaque Pace’ prepares to bow out, as ephemeral as it is uplifting.

Sam O.B. (fka Obey City) is a producer, DJ, label boss and tastemaker who has been making music in his native New York for the last decade. What started as casual experimentation and beat making for rappers and friends has evolved into an unrelenting solo passion, resulting in a steady stream of soul-drenched bedroom music that avoids trends in favor of the enduring. He’s released records with LuckyMe (UK), Astro Nautico (a label he co-founded), and Classic Music Company through his collaborative project, Dave + Sam.
