It may be a tough day for Denver Bronco fans, or Democrats who saw the "Ad" that will filled with mistruths from @onetoughnred.  Maybe it's the challenge of what to believe, but my thoughts are here as I head to Washington, DC today for a Labor conference on 2014 election issues both here in Michigan and beyond. My trip to DC was empowering and I am sure the one next week will be equal to or greater than the past one, if that's possible.  I have also noticed two former teachers of my are now following me.  I want to thank Lynda Johnston and Karen Waltz for helping shape the man I am today, and finally a few announcements of upcoming opportunities to meet and great, where you can eat my award winning chili and why I want to buy you dinner. As I head out today for a conference on ballot initiates and the importance opt strategy and organization, it is clear that in order to win these fights, and we have plenty of ballot initiatives coming to your ballot box this fall, it seems clear to me that I don't need to just understand the why but also the how, and I am committed to keep myself educated on these topics and opportunities that present themselves in November. I also speak to the deep imbalance in higher education where administrators and paid more than instructors, where increase in administrative salaries has become more critical than the students they serve and the technology they use, and as we look to solutions I can tell you and I am sending a message to my future colleagues in the Michigan State House that no matter where I am at, in the minority or the majority, I will become a siren and an advocate for instructors and students in Michigan.  The upside down approach to funding ALL of education has to be changes desperately, and I will not rest until we restore what has been taken away, with a very special emphasis on pre-K funding and a long term approach to funding that is protected by law and embraced as critical and necessary. Happy Mother's Day 2014

The battle of words over minimum wage is the wrong conversation, to be certain.  The real conversation should be about Minimum Rights, because at the end of the day the amount we pay people says more about how we perceive them and the rights we believe they have.  Change the conversation to Rights, and it changes everything!

An Open Letter to Dr. John Covington of the Educational Achievement Authority

As you gather today to spend time with family and friends, try and capture the spirit of Memorial Day which is about those who have died in service to this great country and not just an opportunity to have a BBQ with family and friends.  There is nothing wrong with the celebration but try to include a prayer or remembrance on this day so that the will and comfort which is so hard to find, shines through.

The press doesn't even agree on how to spell Mackinac (Mackinaw?), the event is staged by the uber conservative Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce.  It literally costs a Kings ransom to attend, unless you fall into certain categories, like being a member of the press, and the list goes on.  But, and it's a biggie, there is not only NO policy ever worked out on this beautiful, extravagant setting, it's all a ruse to network with those who need money and those who have it to give,  Oh, and of course it's politics 24/7 no matter what political party you belong.  Frankly, the whole thing stinks and at an amazingly high price to the participants, who don't blink an eye when registering. Imagine!!!
